holy crap, the video was ass of course, but musically that was one of the most interesting things i've heard in the last five years. i can't even begin to talk about the sense of meter in this, it's so messed up and ambiguous. do you know where this comes from and/or if there's a genre label attached to it?
also, if i hadn't been watching a video i would have thought this was a mashup using a vocal track of asian origin and a late-80s African highlife instrumental track that has been attacked by a computer.
this was really amazing. i hope there is more of it.
This is what you'd call tipico or 'folk' music from Peru. It's kind of typical of central/south american music 'of the people', except for maybe for the fact that the singer is very young and i have no idea what instrument they're playing.
She's singing about wanting beer.
Your reaction is unprecedented! This kinda stuff usually gives my friends nightmares.
mostly the instrumentation sounds exactly like what's depicted in the videos: some kinda harp, a fretless bass, percussion, drum machine / MIDI drums, and the guy who should be MCing boxing matches.
i've learned a lot in the five minutes since i watched this. i take it then you've heard / heard about LA TETITA?
i demand a complete translation of that song. the tidbits i've heard are just wow.
the vocal isn't the interesting bit to me, and i've heard FAR more annoying (hell, i've been personally *responsible* for worse crimes against music). the meter is just so amazingly screwy on multiple levels in ways i've not encountered frequently.
i'm kind of sad that most of her songs are apparently basically the same, but i'm curious to hear more of this kind of stuff for a few other metrical impressions. overall this music is a far cry from the trumpets-and-tuba stuff that gets blasted out of every other pickup truck around here.
weirdly i had already watched the george bush video but not the "la tetita" there.
if that translation is accurate, wow, that is so, so much more disturbing that anything i could have imagined. i thought the creepiness would be limited to boxing-match guy. oh no! they save the best for wendy. now i *will* have nightmares.
