Ok, so...I was watching that movie- "Final Destination", and I really liked the beginning (the camera was awesome)- so I figured I would watch it and pay attention to the symbolism. Then by the middle, there was so much I figured I'd write it all down. So here it is:

1. Wind: foreshadows death
beg: the curtains in Alex's room were being blown about by the wind-then later the plane that he was supposed to be on explodes and everyone dies. Tod is in his bathroom when the curtains are blown about by the wind- then he dies....Then the teacher, Ms. Valerie dies- and before her death there was wind blowing (I think it blew the curtains...or you could hear it blowing)...Before Alex narrowly avoids death (when he's in the cabin), the wind blows leaves about....and it's windy and stormy outside when the wire falls and almost kills the Alex and Clear

2. Knives (for Ms. Valerie): foreshadows cause of death
Ms. Valerie throws a towel on the knives on the counter...then later she's near her computer and she has this huge painting on the wall behind her of a giant knife...or sword I think

3. Water: part of the cause of many deaths in the movie
beg: it was raining throughout the beginning, and the plane blew up in the rain....Tod slips on water dripping from the pipe at the back of the toilet, causing him to fall into the bathtub, grab the showerhead, which breaks, and he ends up getting strangled.....Ms. Valerie is boiling water, pours it into her cup, then pours it out and decides to have an ice cold alcoholic drink instead, so going from the boiling water to the ice cracks the cup (stupid!! she should have known that!), and the cup drips the liquid (alcohol) on the floor. Then some drips into the computer, which explodes, glass shards fly into her neck, and fire erupts from the computer, igniting the alcohol on the floor.....Then when the wire is hanging, about to kill Clear, it's raining and her pool breaks and the water spills out.

4. Neck: The way in which almost everyone dies
Tod: strangled; Ms. Valerie: glass shards fly into neck...she's also stabbed with a knife in the chest, but I think the glass in the neck could have killed her...; Billy was decapitated by the shard of metal that flew out from the passing train

5. Moving vehicles: Terry gets hit by the bus and dies (breaks pattern of how everyone else dies); Billy gets killed by the shard of metal hit by the MOVING TRAIN; Alex almost gets hit by a bus; and in the beginning everone on the MOVING plane dies

6.Mirrors: Also foreshadows death (the demon of death)
beg: Alex sees plane explode through a [reflective] window....Tod is in front of his bathroom mirror moments before his death....The teakettle is reflective and shows "death" (black demon in misty form) really quickly before Ms. Valerie's death....Terry: the car window....Clear excapes death by electrocution (from wire), but before that she stands near a pool of [reflective] water. Many times you see the black cloudy substance in the reflector

7. Lighting a fire: everyone seemed to do it before they died or escaped death!
Ms. Valerie lights the stove, it goes out because of the wind..... Alex lights a fire (for light I guess) in the cabin, moments before his close scrape with death; Clear is in her house before the wire goes down and she had a candle lit, and it went out because of the wind

8. Electricity: there's just a lot of it!
Beg: the lightning; in the bathroom Tod pulls the cord out of the wall and you see sparks of electricity; the wire is downed and flails about; at the end the electrical sign falls and nearly kills Alex and does kill Carter

Unrealistic points of movie:
If I believed in fate, and I don't, this movie would be perfect, because that's what it's based on- death having a pattern- so everyone dies according to that pattern- meaning your death is predetermined. However, there are more scientific unrealistic happenings- when the main character (alex) grabs the downed wire to save his future girl friend (clear), he survives! That is not possible!!!! When he was pulling that asshole, Carter out of the car to save his life from the train that was going to ram his car...the time was so off...they would have died. They were on the tracks when the train hit the damn car- I dunno, you have to see the movie to understand what I mean. Then there was the water that leaked from the toilet, which Tod slipped on- afterwards it just "soaked" back up- I think the point was that the water wasn't really there- it was the demon that killed him- but in real life that was unrealistic. However, if you look at things that way, the beginning was unrealistic- Alex forsaw the plane blowing up. So I guess you can't see eveything in a scientific way- you have to use your imagination and forget logic. The whole scene where Terry gets hit by the bus seemed a little illogical- it just flies out of nowhere and she gets hit. It seems like everyone forgets about her thoug- there's no funneral for her, and no one talks about her. Not even her fucking boyfriend!! And then Clear, sitting in a burning car with an electrical wire flailing about- she fucking survived that?!

The end was completely different from the beginning- it sucked!! Alex, Clear, and Alex's arch enemy, Carter (they never got along!) were in France (so they all got on a damn plane, six months after the explosion and all of their near-death experiences). They go 6 months with out problems- then they start talking about death's pattern, and suddenly Alex is nearly run over by a bus, but Clear yells at him and he stops before getting hit. Then this giant sign falls and nearly hits Alex, but Carter leaps at him, knocking him down and sacing him from death. So the patten changed and meant that Carter was next to die, so he stands up and says some corney line saying, "told you were next!" or something, and then, "so who's next?" or something like that- then the sign swings back and hits Carter, obviously killing him- then the screen goes black and the credits come. CRAPPY!!! And I predicted that everyone who wasn't on the plane would end up dead EXCEPT the main character, Alex and the girl, Clear. And they both survived! Both should have died at one time other, but they survived in the situations in which they should have died.
