Well I'm home. A day early.
1. Motel: Decent, I think it was 'okay'. Within reasonable walking distance although it was bitterly cold. Jon didn't really care for the room, it was an old motel and it was so cold. I couldn't sleep because I hate sleeping anywhere but my own bed. So we ended up staying up 24+ hours, and finally i got tired enough to pass out, after waking up three times in 5 short hours we got back up and decided WTH let's go back home tonight. Anyway I think it was alright for the trip but I definitely would stay somewhere closer next time and just save up some extra $$$ for a place to sleep. Also... terribly loud heater in room. Pluses - big bed, 2 leather chairs and a fireplace (♥)
2. Restaurants: Pancake Pantry - yummmm waffles with bacon COOKED INTO THEM. Also hot tea and watching the sun rise through beautiful windows. Very sweet waitress, free refills on hot tea and hot chocolate. Oh and at 7 am it was completely deserted.
Apple Barn's Grill restaurant - Ick it was overpriced and mediocre. I got a burger(meh, cheese cost extra) with fried okra(decent) and veggie soup (should've just ordered this alone, spicy) and apple fritters (were cold and tasted like sweet hushpuppies ew). They wouldn't let me order off the kid's menu so half my food went to waste. Either way waste of time money, but thankfully it wasn't our money, but gift money. The best thing was watching their bird tank of crazy birds. Socute.
Golden Corral - This was actually on the way home. Buffet type stuff. So good. Golden Corral is the stuff of my childhood, literally. La Grange's best place to eat was their Golden Corral and Nashville doesn't have any remotely close. We really overpaid for the small amount of food but our waitress was amazing, everyone was nice, food was very yummy and fresh. This was the most expensive meal we ate surprisingly.
3. Sights and Shoppes -
Celtic Heritage - lovely shoppe we went into late when we arrived Wednesday. They were actually closed but let us browse awhile anyway and we came back the next afternoon. Jon bought me a
pretty silver ring set with an opal, and I lusted after things bearing my 'family' crest and a lovely book telling of my oldest of ancestors... but it was like $8 for a thing of paper stapled together. Was an overpriced shoppe mostly, but what was on sale was decent enough. All quality items so you'd likely get your money's worth.
Ripley's Aquarium - I said over and over we weren't going to go. It's overpriced, I said. It's not a big deal, I said. There's so much else to do, I said. Well we went to the aquarium. It was lovely. So many fishies, was actually cheaper than listed online, allowed photos. We ended up here late Wednesday night. We were really looking for somewhere open and not-food to warm up in because there was a bit of a walk from the motel. We ended up watching fishies. You can pet horseshoe crabs and mantas, but I didn't. *shudder* Was worth it, since we weren't the ones paying. X_X
Ole Smokey Candy Kitchen - Yum.. Nuff said.
4. Where things went wrong - Coldcoldcoldcold. Wednesday was so cold and so miserable. We're both halfway sick now because of all the walking in the cold we did. The room was cold because the door had a bit of air coming out the bottom. No heavy blankets either. We lost Jon's PSP. He says he lost it but I feel at fault. I really do. I feel horrible about it. Not sleeping. We really wore ourselves down and just got homesick rather than taking advantage of the escape.
5. Where things went right - It was a good trip. The drives were amazing, the time I spent with Jon was wonderful reconnecting with him. Today faired much better in terms of weather and we got alot of walking done, I just wish the end of it wasn't realizing we had lost Jon's PSP somewhere along the lines. Good food. Seeing many many animals, we even managed to see 2 street cats leaving the motel. Spending time with Jon is just my absolute favorite thing in the world. walking around with him, riding in the car, walking huddled together for warmth.
6. Where things went weird - Gamestop A La Pigeon Forge. Jon got a 360 controller for himself. TJ Maxx Pigeon Forge, I got a neat tunic and we stopped by Rack room shortly. These were spur of the moment stops. Also Mcd's courtesy of.. some random ass town between here and there. It was a pee- stop. Also getting gas we had to get a refund for $2 because our car wouldn't hold anymore. Heehee.
Anyway I'm dead tired, gonna sleep tomorrow away and hopefully fix my internal clock... stupid Eastern time zone line. I finally got all my cleaning done, clothing outside to wash, everything organized and put back in it's place. Pictures will be coming soon.. Whenever I get them developed.
Ohhhh and I slipped on some ice, rolled my ankle, pulled my calf and part of my back.. And with all the walking BOTH calves hurt like hell. Awesome.
