So far, it has been a very interesting weekend. When I got back from town on Friday, we had a second guest. He is a technician from last year who worked with one of my partners which lead him to visit for a couple of days. Since he got here, we have been drinking lots of beer and have gone to a bar several times. I suspect this pattern might even continue after he leaves since Eric made the comment he wanted to have a “party atmosphere” for the rest of the project. It certainly shall be an interesting time.
The person I mentioned in the last entry shown on Friday and went out that evening. She said it was a lot of fun and invited us over to her place. We went over and saw some of her birds as she is a parrot keeper. Her birds were really neat and friendly including when one chased the dog around the living room. All in all, it was a good evening with her place and then the bar.
Yesterday, we went to town for lunch and had some good Mexican at a local joint. On the way back, we went to a local falconer who also breeds falcons. We got to see most of his birds, including several which are getting near the date when they will be sent to the Middle East. He crossed a couple of different species to create some very cool patterns. He also had some Peruvian Aplomado falcons which allowed us to see the difference between the two subspecies. His birds were fascinating and very beautiful.

Since the project is approaching its conclusion here at White Sands, I’ve begun to look for a job for afterward. So far I have had some success and thought I had an interview today. Unfortunately, the interview was probably a cost of my intermittent internet access. The position is a great natural resource position on a military testing range in Utah. I would love to have the job but we shall have to wait and see what the person in charge sent me about the interview. I’ve applied to a couple of other positions and hope to have some success.
As of last week we reach the point of success for the last group. This group was the one which was moved from Armendaris to here. Eight of seventeen were still showing up which is how they are declared a success. The site’s success is separate and I am unfamiliar with how it works. Also, the group still has over two weeks before the site closes. We will continue to feed until six weeks after the release date.
Tomorrow, I will do the tourist thing and go up to Albuquerue and see what there is to do. I’ve heard there are some neat petroglyphs around and I am thinking about investigating them. It shall be a lot of fun and I will probably do a bit of shopping like I haven’t been able to because of a lack of stores.
