Mark Gatha (yes, I know his name) is X's recent VA in the MMX series. He is also responsible for voicing several anime works, his most famous being Domon Kasshu in Mobile Hunter G Gundam. He has an impressive resume most of which will not be talked about in this post. Wondering why now am I talking about Mark Gatha considering the amounts of posts on my journal indicate my unhealthy love for X?
Three words: Maverick Hunter X
I was re-introduced to MHX about a week ago. Since I don't own a PSP, I only saw clips of MHX on youtube. One person on youtube used to upload the speed run of MHX with the horribly written dialogue that went something like this:
X: [ Maverick's name], I can't believe you went Maverick!
Maverick: Maverick saying something to the effect of Sigma's greatness or hating humans’ rhetoric
X: That's it, you've gone Maverick!
Capcom, next time you need a good dialogue writer, hire me. As mind boggling as my example was, the saving grace was that of the voice work (well, sometimes. Launch Octopus' voice, WHY?) Going back to the aforementioned person, that guy needs to upload those videos again. I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed listening to the voice work. Nothing compares, though, to one scene in the game that both shocked me and amazed me:
X vs. Sigma aka X IS FUCKING PISSED
The dialogue improved greatly in this scene. You feel like you're X, that you're in his blue boots, ready to kick ass. Helping you to do such a task: the voice acting. The voice acting pumps you up. Realize that it's all acting. The VA (Mark) must have channeled something traumatic because how else the anger could be explained? When I mean anger, I mean ANGER, SCREAMING ANGER. The last line in that scene--WOW--is the best.
X: I WILL DEFEAT YOU, RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW. I WILL DEFEAT YOU SIGMA.
I'm not joking when I say this scene was a religious experience, and I'm not going to lie when I say I was both terrified and aroused. Compared to Command Mission or MMX8, it's no contest, MHX wins. Beautiful, just beautiful...
I hate the fact that I can't find a vocal recording of that scene. I would have shared it, too. It's better to hear because my description can't do justice. Yes, if I had recording of that scene, I would listen to it everywhere I went just like I said in the Zero VA post.
BTW, I couldn't find a picture of this guy. I say this because in the Zero VA post I mentioned that I found a pic of Lucas Gilbertson. And yet, no picture of Mark. Maybe that's a good thing. ;)
*reading info on Mark Gatha* Whoa, this guy actually loves playing the MMX games. That's about a hundred ten points in my book. And LMAO at someone trying to get his e-mail address. What an pathetic person. HAHAHA.
I want his e-mail now.
EDIT: I forgot to mention about the "Shining Finger" scene in the Day Of Sigma. I've been a MMX fan since X1. When I saw that scene, I kept thinking if X ever had a move like that, and if so, how did I not know about it. Turns out it was all an inside joke-- I mentioned earlier Mark voices Domon Kasshu. Fanservice, I didn't get it.
