Bride and Other Wars (Spoilers, I guess)

So I just got back from seeing BRIDE WARS with the fam. That was ok. Actually, if it hadn't been for 2 of my favorite actresses, it would probably have been a travesty. I just love them both, altho Kate Hudson is trumping Anne Hathaway. It is unfair that women are almost always relegated to these awful roles. Both of them need vehicles because they are good actresses. A lot of ppl don't want to give them credit because they are young, beautiful and (that most awful thing to be) American. But the truth is that both of them are just the unfortunate victims of bad roles. It's not their fault that the only roles for women are "the girl" or "the quirky, romcom girl." I guess Anne Hathaway got to kind of flex her stuff a little bit in RACHEL GETTING MARRIED, but it was such a pretentious movie. Women need movies that showcase them as real people and not clumsy fashion-grubbing, marriage-mad freaks or warped male fantasies.

I decided not to read reviews of this beforehand because I think most people are unfair when it comes to romcoms. No, they aren't the place to go for non-stereotypical women or feminist stuff, but they are cute and make you feel all warm inside. I like them. But this romcom had some serious problems, and I did read that it was written and directed by men. That is probably why it was a) exaggerated, and that probably was the reason why it b) was badly written. I think I could sit through a longer version of it if that is what they needed to make things work, and they did need it.

First, there were moments that were just like "Where did you try to prepare us for this?" Hudson's character's parents had died and were supposed to be so important to her, but the way they did it was awkward and disjointed. And we should have had more signs that Hathaway's character was getting with the brother. It was obvious the way they did it, but it came waaaaaaaaaaaay too late in the movie and there wasn't even any real cute scene between them. I think ultimately this was the real killer. I want to re-write the screenplay and rearrange some things. It may not be extra funnier, but I think it would be much better put together (and cuter, more in line with a romcom).

Then, the screenplay was just not that funny. It wasn't even romcom cute funny, it was just a dud for the most part. I think this is where the exaggeration comes in - I could laugh if it wasn't so obnoxious. You can tell a guy wrote it because only a guy would interpret things that way. They were real Bridezillas and sometimes they were just awful ppl. I've said this a gazillion times - if str8 guys don't want us, they can go fuck each other. Literally. No one is stopping them except themselves. I feel like we're already half way to "All Men Are Really Super Gay" with all this bromance crap anyway. LOL.

BUT in better news, my arch nemesis of the office gets cut off all the time by our boss AND I might have a date on Saturday. On a not-so-better news note, I've decided that I will probably never have a relationship. Relationships are a lot of hard work and a lot of trust. I don't know that I have it in me for either of those. And as always, there's the neverending saga of the way my mom and sister misunderstand me. Ta-ta. Kiss kiss. Mmhm.
