"Alright, what's wrong, man?"
Breakups weren't really that bad. Danny felt that when the feeling was mutual and there was this understanding between the two partners that ending the relationship was alright. He never was a man of commitment in the first place, he didn't have an urge to get married to any of the girls he had dated or anything of the sort, it was more of just being together, dating, that he liked.
But why did this one bother him? Danny couldn't be certain.
It wasn't like he had any extreme feelings for the girl he was with, it wasn't like they were together for too long. She definitely was pretty and she was kind of cool, a little unique. The mention of it privately brought him to an all time low and he never wanted to talk about it with anyone. It wasn't until Arin asked him what was bothering him that it really fucked him up.
They were at the Grump space, on the couch beside each other after filming a couple videos and having a good time. Danny had to admit that during the time they were laughing and talking and playing video games it made him completely forget about whatever brought him down. But Arin must have noticed there was something up at some point.
Danny didn't actually tell Arin about it yet. It was only yesterday that he broke up with his girlfriend, or "ex-girlfriend", so he never got around to it. Barry knew, mostly because they live together and he would of told him at some point that day. Despite how he felt when talking about the breakup, he took his time to explain what had happened.
"It's nothing really, dude.. I guess I'm a little bummed out, 'cause my girlfriend broke up with me yesterday." Danny was admittedly more than 'a little bummed out'.
Arin looked pretty surprised as he listened. "What? Oh shit, I'm sorry, Dan. That sucks." He spoke sympathetically, his arm around Danny but more so on the top of the couch. He shrugged in response and Danny didn't realize he was wearing a sad look on his face until Arin smiled and lightly rubbed his shoulder.
"Come on, dude. Cheer up." Arin encouraged his friend and it almost worked, Danny laughed a little at Arin's attempt to cheer him up. "Okay, okay."
Danny didn't really expect what Arin suggested a couple minutes later after just sitting and talking for a while. It was simple but a really neat gesture in his eyes. "Hey, how about we go somewhere to eat later? Like, Denny's?" And, obviously, Danny accepted the offer.
Hours passed when Arin and Danny had finished recording a couple more videos. Sonic Boom definitely wasn't a great game, but Danny could handle it with Arin at his side cracking jokes constantly. They had driven to Denny's afterwards and found a table to sit at, ordering their food. His hair was a little messier than usual but he fixed it with his hand, meanwhile Arin watched him and chuckled, making a playful comment on how he was "fixing himself for their date".
"Yeah, sure." Danny laughed softly and Arin smirked to himself, quite fascinated with his own joke it seemed. Their food arrived shortly after on trays, and immediately they started to eat. The two men had purposely not eaten for a while so they could stay hungry for when they went out to eat and in the end it was worth it. Danny was laughing the whole time with a smile that reached his eyes and was completely genuine.
It felt good to feel happy and smile. Arin's presence had that affect on him, it always made him at peace. Maybe it was Arin himself, the way he was and how he always had some sort of joke up his sleeve to make Danny laugh like a fucking hyena and embarrass himself at the restaurant but he was honestly too happy to care when people glanced at them.
"Arin?" Danny had finished most of his food by then, his gaze rested on his best friend who sat in front of him. Arin was putting the wrapper of his straw back on the end of it and deviously looking back at Danny, then blowing into the straw. The wrapper hit Danny square in the forehead and they both laughed childishly.
"Goddammit!" He playfully shouted. Danny was honestly surprised they hadn't been kicked out by then, with the way they were laughing and getting a few looks here and there.
After a couple moments, they both calmed down and were grinning afterwards. Danny met Arin's eyes and for the first time, he saw something he hadn't noticed before. Was it some kind of longing? Want? It was gone after a few seconds like it wasn't even there in the first place when Arin glanced away and looked back.
"Anyways, thanks, Arin." Danny looked down at his for the most part clear plate, then back to his friend. "I really appreciate this. I feel a hell lot better." Arin chuckled to himself and ran a hand through his hair, then leaned a little closer over the table as he replied.
"Yeah yeah, no problem." Their eyes met again and it was quiet for a few seconds; Danny found his heart beating a little harder than before. When they got up and paid then left, as they walked beside each other outside, their hands brushed lightly against each others and an unspoken gratitude and an unidentified feeling between them.
Danny took one more look over at Arin, and with a little grin, thought to himself. Maybe there is someone else for me.
