I'm in my favourite corner of the school library, drinking minute maid and waiting for my project mates. Just got back from shopping with OHS, she's sucha shopaholic! hope she reads this. haha :D

anyway, Krakow was great with OHS and dee. It was quite a pity that the weather was blue for most part of the trip and this forced us to seek shelter in cafes, getting fat with coffee and cakes. But then again, those coffee breaks escaping from the dreary rain were nice, because it was great bonding time getting to know each other even better :)

Krakow had a melancholic and depressing atmosphere that enveloped the town. I'm not too sure about the history behind it, but the people looked hardened and (quite) poor, and there were many instances where my heart sank because I could see sadness in the place.

One of the more lifechanging points of Krakow was the trip to Auswitz. I had read so much about this particular extermination camp, that I had to mentally prep myself to what was about to come. Dee and I took a bus that looked like it came from the 1970s. It had rusty windows and dirty velvet seats, and whenever the bus ran over potholes, the entire bus would rattle along making weird cranking noises - i felt i was transported back in time. Dee and I spent a good time HTHT and then she fell asleep, leaving me peering out of the window watching the bus roll along the road to Auswitz. In my mind, I couldn't help but imagine the plight of the Polish Jews; on the same road that I was on, same destination, but with a different fate.

The solemness of the place is unforgettable. I felt it most when we went to the death track. It was the place where thousands of Jews were sent to the death camop by train, and were bluffed by the Nazis that they were going to be sent to work, only to be ushered into gas chambers with fake shower caps, to be killed by the lethal Zyklon B gas. These Jews had brought along all their most important possessions in hope for a future, but only to have their future cut-off by the hands of evil&terror.

I felt rather nauseatic looking at the remains of the Jews. Hair that was shaven off, glasses, suitcases, children's toys, clothes..

Forever the terror of inhumanity in that place will not be forgotten.
