Four Sam drabbles

Jun 02, 2012 17:41

Dean got his quartet of drabbles last weekend, so this week it's Sam's turn.   First one's a look at Stanford era Sam and Jessica.  Second one's season one Sam and a canon bad guy.  Third one's I don't even know what:  I just had this view of a possible future Sam  The last one contains vague spoilers for the season seven finale...be warned.

Title: Keeping Quiet
Characters: Sam
Genre: Gen
Rating: G
Summary:  Jess doesn't need to know about Sam's past.  It's safer that way.

We do what we do and shut up about it.  Sam’s not in the family business any more, but that doesn’t mean he’s going to go around telling people what he used to do.  Pre-law students at Stanford don’t believe in ghosts, much less hunt them.

It’s both harder and easier to keep quiet after he meets Jessica.  Harder because she’s full of questions about his life and one slip could bring disaster.  Easier because he loves her and wants to keep her safe.  She doesn’t need to know about his past.  They just need to concentrate on their future.

Title: Replacement
Character:  Sam, OC
Genre: Gen
Rating: G
Summary:  There's just no replacing some things.

“Where is my brother?” Sam asked; eyes never leaving the shifter as it paced its underground lair.  This thing hadn’t killed any of the other people it had impersonated and Sam had to believe that Dean was still alive.

The creature altered its course, bending down so its face was inches from Sam’s.  “I’m your brother,” it barked and Sam fought not to flinch at the hatred in those familiar eyes.

As the shifter went on, Sam realized that in its own deluded mind it actually believed what it was saying.

Like there could ever be a replacement for Dean.

Title: Ghost Town
Character: Sam
Genre: Gen
Rating: G
Summary:  Sam's life is a ghost town.

He catches flickers, sometimes, from the corner of his eye.  Shadows, mostly; dim and shapeless as an unformed memory.  Occasionally, he glimpses a face, a jacket, or a familiar gesture that makes his heart jump in his chest.  He stays still; doesn’t look at them directly.  If he acknowledges their presence they’ll be gone in an instant.

It doesn’t seem to matter where he is; he sees them everywhere; in the car; in the shower; in the empty remains of his shattered world.  Sam’s life is a ghost town, filled with the specters of everyone that he has ever loved.

Title: Stone One
Character: Sam
Genre: Gen
Rating: G
Summary:  Sam's going to play to his strengths.

It’s been a week since Dean disappeared and Sam’s blind panic has dulled to stabbing fear.  Stone one of the foundation that Sam’s resting everything on has vanished into thin air.

The last time he’d lost his brother, Sam had at least known where Dean was.  He’d had deals to offer, and when they were rejected, revenge to seek.  In his despair, he’d let Ruby play on his weaknesses and that’s not happening again.

Now Sam’s going to play to his strengths.  He’s smart, resourceful and still has contacts he can count on.  He has to bring his brother home.
