Nothing to really talk about, to be perfectly honest. Just posting to post, since I haven’t in a while. I’ve mostly just been working on a side-project to take a break from Mirra and company - recover some distance and forget about the frustration writing in that world has been building.
So I'm majoring in journalism, minoring in English (which may have been an error on my part, judging by my Lit class - though if I can just get past the stupid pre-reqs of the minor and get into writing courses, maybe it’ll get better.)
My academic adviser got me all fired up about career opportunities and such. One being getting in with AP during the election. They hire students here to help collect polling data during election night so they can release exit pole data to the media at large. Working for them on that gives me references inside AP and work experience with them; also, since Spokane is their data hub, so to speak, they have other work here along similar lines.
Now, I want to be a photographer, not a data jockey - but, having references from inside their organization cannot hurt.
There’s also Reuters (which I hadn’t really considered until my adviser brought them up.) I want to travel - I want to capture things with a lens and possibly write about it too (the market demands are such that, if you want to be a journalist anymore, multi-media skills and aptitude are the only way to go, which I should have in spades after the next couple years.)
I haven’t seen enough of this planet yet; getting to walk about it some more and getting paid to do that is pretty much my current “long time” (as in post college) goal.
