Ember: A suspension of miniscule crysilk shards in quicksilver. Ember can store two to three times as much arcane energy as a crysilk pent or gemstone of similar volume (though at much greater mass, due to the density of quicksilver) and is the common power source for arcane devices used by the southern empire that require denser energy sources than the ambient ether. It derives its name from the red-orange glow of the crysilk shards when charged with arcane energy (the intensity of the glow is a general indicator of how much charge the substance has.) It is typically contained in glass vials with wire fused crysilk caps to serve as connectors.
