A WORTHY ENDEAVOR
Chris’s brother Evan is six. He doesn’t believe in leprechauns, unicorns, the tooth fairy, the Easter bunny, or Santa Clause. He also doesn’t believe in Parker’s never-before-seen-or-spoken-to girlfriend, though that’s different, because no one does.
It’s not the “girlfriend” situation, however, that gets Chris and Parker out of bed at six and sends them out into the frigid pre-dawn armed with shovels, parkas, a tarp, and deep, dumb, self-righteous inspiration.
The sore shoulders, the lack of sleep, the endless lecture, and the trip to the hospital to treat the mild hypothermia are all worth it: when Parker rises out of a snow-bank with a guttural roar, Evan rockets half a mile down the street screaming about the abominable snowman.
