Who does this? prg September 2 2009, 17:15:19 UTC
A mother with a child too young to leave at home alone who works for a company that:
- does not pay for sick time
- does not pay for vacation time unless "pre-earned"
- does not offer telecommuting
- does not offer on-site childcare options
- does not offer flex-time options
- does not offer comp-time options

Basically, this event makes it sound like you work for a company that is so inflexible with its work hours that if an employee does not go to work there are the possible consequences of either not being paid for that time or even being let go... regardless of if said employee could/would get all assigned tasks done in a timely manner, consistent with the quality required, even having missed said day for lack of childcare alternatives.

I do agree that this is annoying as hell. Kids are an unneccesary distration at work, for her and everyone else in the office. It may even be a violation of your company's insurance policy to have the kid there.

Regardless, I would ask your supervisor why she had to bring her kid into work.

In the end, it sounds to me like she may be doing what she can to keep her job - no one WANTS to take thier kid to work. I would rather this than her not being employed so that she can take care of her kid out of sight... but not out of a paycheck's reach (i.e. as a welfare recipient).
