Eek! Rural Visit!

Jan 26, 2005 11:31

So tomorrow morning at 5:15 a.m., my friend Lily and I will be meeting at the Baobab Center to begin our adventures heading out to our Rural Visit. We will be going to Tambacounda, a town in the south eastern area of Sénégal. Check out this map to see where:

Tambacounda is on the western side of one of the best national parks in Sénégal so I'm hoping the scenery will be good. So Lily and I will be leaving at the très bonne heure (*the very good hour) to take a bus/sept-place/some other form of public transport to Tambacounda - anywhere between a 10 hour - 15 hour trip depending on how things go. We will arrive and go to the Peace Corps house and from there, meet up with someone and ride bikes 15k out to a village where there is a Peace Corps volunteer who probably will enjoy us visiting. She doesn't know we're coming but apparently likes to have visitors. So Lily and I will be staying there until Monday morning, seeing what rural life and the life of a peace corps volunteer is like. I am so excited now! (And not at ALL motivated to do my History of Islam Paper... boo).

On another note, I've decided there are so many things I want to do in life but then I can't decide what I actually want to do. I want to go to grad school, and be a K College Admission Counselor (I jock K, what can I say?), and be a Rotary Scholar in France, and teach English for the French Govt., and be the next Erik Vickstrom (he is our assistant director here), and who knows, maybe after this visit I will want to be a Peace Corps volunteer. Too many choices and I just want to do everything!

Also, 10 things I am going to miss about Sénégal:
1. Saying "Well!" with Krissie
2. "Huh?!"
3. Impressions of the mouton spasms as it dies
4. Ceebu Jen, Ataya, Yassa, Chakry (how do you actually spell that?)
5. Warm weather (yup, still in the 70s-80s here)
6. Looking at the ocean while I run
7. Trevanna, Emily, Erik, Langan, Lily, and other friends I won't get to run into all the time anymore
8. Walking to the U to find out that we are STILL on strike (haha actually I won't miss this one so much)
9. Wolof
10. Muneca Brava!
