Fuck it. Let's round up the troops and move to Antarctica. There is actually a town there called McMurdo Station. It has a population of 4000 people, and a bowling ally. Check it out...

Believe it or not, but Antarctica is concidered the largest desert in the world as it meets all the criteria a dry landmass should, ie. there is less then 50 mm of precipitation annually. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antarctica
I have been looking into it for some reason. It really is quite fasinating.

Ok, with out even looking for this one I can tell you. The scorpion was a representative of the desert in Egyption times, the god Set, or in English, Seth. This eventually turned into the anti-hero of egyptology.

For a minute there I thought you meant the Scarab, which I can also tell you about. The scarab, or dung beetle as we laymens state, is a direct representative of the sun god Ra. The way the beetle rolled balls of dung across the desert was how the egyptians thought the god of sun rolled the everlasting fury across the sky. The transformation from day to night was also regarded from how the beetle lay its eggs in he dung and a new generation was hatched from the ball of fecis.

NB. The God Ra was in direct link to the God of the setting sun Khepri. This being of only the male gender.
