I was going to suggest abscess as a possible issue, but didn't get around to it. (It happened to me _ i ran around for 3 days with a portable IV to get the antibiotics into my system as quickly as possible).

You have my sympathies with your other issues. With 2 fake joints, three more on the chopping block and a hand that won't grip, I'm ready to just sit down on a couch and never get up. But I won't. Keep fighting!!

Well, nobody's suggested antibiotics yet. I brought it up but they said I didn't need it.

The part that's worrying me is that my jaw has begun to ache and I'm getting small twinges on that side of the head. So I think whatever's happening, it's starting to spread.

I was told that abscesses in the head can be dangerous, given the proximity of the infection to the brain. i'd get a second opinion quickly, and ask about antibiotics. In my case they opted for IV as it was faster than oral ones. It was one of those pumps that would release a dose straight into my bloodstream every 8 hours. awkward, but effective. (At the time, the side of my face looked like I was chewing a golf ball...)

Oh, and they pulled the tooth once the abscess was gone.

Thing is, today is Good Friday, so everything is shut (except Emergency) and I don't know who to see.

Guess I'll have to call them tomorrow.

At the time, I was actually sent to Emerg by my dentist, because he did not have access to the "good drugs". I'd go.

I've called and left a message with my parents (the sisters are off and away for the weekend) and ask them to come around.

Thanks for suggesting this, btw. I went and saw my uncle, got some hardcore antibiotics (the kind you take on an empty stomach), and the headaches/twinging have reduced in just over 24 hours.

Phew! So glad they seem to be doing the trick! :-)

Now on to the next step -- getting rid of that tooth ...

Right now, the next step is getting through the night! I kind of overextended myself today and at 8pm, I'm really paying for it.
