why you should watch Fringe

It's sort of interesting working through Fringe and seeing how it's a more standard telling of the 'man walks into the Underworld' storyline - also Sanctuary's premise.

Fringe is more standard than Sanctuary, because the focus is the everyman character - Olivia - while Sanctuary is focused on the mentor-of-the-everyman - Helen. It's less standard ( Read more... )

You're the second person I know who has given Fringe a big thumbs-up, and from what little I know about it does sound intriguing.

(glances in the direction of the nearest JB Hifi)

...'man walks into the Underworld'...

That reminds me of 'A man walks into a bar...'

WARNING - INCREDIBLY LAME JOKE APPROACHING

A man walks into the Underworld with a duck on his head.

The Lord of the Underworld roared with laughter and cried, "You look ridiculous!"

"Big deal - it's a much easier way to get around," the duck replied with a shrug.

I got about halfway through season one, and I enjoyed it, but it didn't grab me. I think it was a personal thing, for some reason it didn't speak to me but at the same time, I consider it an excellent show. If that makes sense?

I might give it another try.

Do love that Anna is from Melbourne. :D

Ah, you will have to watch the 2nd half of the show - that's when it really gets interesting.

The stuff with John Scott? That's all a red herring. The episodes that are recced in the link above are probably the ones you want to watch for the full mytharc effect: 1.14 - Ability, 1.16 - Bad Dreams, 1.18 - (I can't remember the title), 1.19 - The Road Less Travelled, and 1.20 - There's More Than One Of Everything.

I enjoyed the 1st half of the series (sort of, some of the stuff was kinda squicky), but the 2nd half is when it kicks off!
