Dear American Networks (and cinematic production companies),
When will you learn that you can't just take a successful show across the Atlantic (or the Pacific, Kath and Kim, I'm looking at you), plonk it in an American setting and expect it to work?
The Dark Is Rising, Life on Mars, Coupling, Kath and Kim...
...Dr. Who?
No. Please, no.
I could believe there might be a Torchwood US - after all, the aliens can't all land in the UK (although they always seem to land in the US for some reason, except for the V who haven't really landed at all), but there's Only One Doctor. It's like...a law or something. And how the hell are you going to explain The Other Doctor (the original British one) running around time and space, pray? Parallel universe Time Lords? Or just general insularity of the 'American public' and the idea that anyone with an accent associated with the British Isles must be evil?
It would be like making Merlin American, FFS. Frankly, I'm kind of surprised nobody's had the stupidity to try American Merlin yet. I suspect it's only a matter of time, though.
stressed,
work
