Bridgerton

They just cast the heroine of Book #2 - the one who ends up with the Viscount Bridgerton. In the books, she's Kate Sheffield, who's pretty enough but not next to her sister who's considered The Imcomparable.

In the TV series? She's going to be KATE SHARMA and she'll be played by Simone Ashley!

And, of course, there are already people bitching about the change of surname, and how Kate isn't actually an Indian name.

I may have had a few things to say about this as a woman with a 'white' firstname, and an Asian surname, who was born in a white, western country.

And now I want Sophie to be played by an South-East Asian woman.

Someone said, "Oh, that would be nice, but she can't be too distinctive, because otherwise Benedict will recognise her!" To which I responded: "oh, that's easy: increase representation, because the best way to hide a white tiger is in a room full of other white tigers!"

I don't think that was the answer they were looking for. More of us coloureds in the story? Good God, someone get the laundry powder, we need to wash this series WHITER THAN WHITE...

I do hope that one of the romantic male leads is played by a 100% Asian man. If they get that far, of course: Eloise and Francesca and Hyacinthe are at the backend, alas, and cancellation is always a very real possibility.

Guess I should get me an icon.
