On the television, every channel is calling the election for Rogers/Wilson and the room around Steve erupts in cheers as people start clapping him on the shoulder and offering congratulations. Meanwhile, his eyes are glued to the screen flashing the electoral totals and his stomach drops like he's just started the descent of a steep roller coaster as he can't help thinking, what the hell did I just do?
So, this is kind of The West Wing mashed up with The American President with the MCU fused in. It's beautifully written - gives you the key character interactions without getting bogged in the details, which is absolutely an art - and very enjoyable in a "yes, I could see this happening in this world" way, which is the gold standard for an AU.

This is the opening salvo in an AU with MCU and DCU characters as hockey players and hockey support staff in an integrated NHL, and it's so much fun. The series starts with Pepper turning the New York Knights into a winning team, and how women are part of that solution, from herself and her team of admin, PR, and coaching staff on the support side of things, to Maria as the first female player drafted in the NHL and Natasha as a defector from Russia. The whole series is fun, and apparently there may be a story coming out for Sharon Carter (who's a goalie in this series).

I'm almost certain I've recced this before, but I don't care. It's a story about politics and women's choices in a time when they didn't have any and the ones that they had were mostly due to luck. And I love Bathsheba's growth from naive innocent to recognising that she's a naive innocent and needs guidance if she and her son are going to survive the court, and Abigail's wisdom and maturity and composure (which, I bet, she learned married to her first husband, who was a fool).
