Vanessa didn't like giggling idiots anymore than they did, but there really wasn't much she could do short of beating them up, which while she could do it, really wasn't anything she'd really want to do. So instead she walked to their table and set her tray down across from them, making enough of a clattering sound to make a point and sat down.
Not at all, that's what it's here for!tiedbydestinyDecember 16 2009, 04:20:18 UTC
Finally, someone with the guts to actually talk to them and not just whisper about them! Chika grinned at her. "Yup. You'd think we were celebs or something."

She rolled her eyes as she opened her milk carton. "They're just idiots who can't tell the difference between an action scene in a movie and a real accident."
Shito's face relaxed into a smile again at the girl's entrance, though there was something wary about his eyes. "It's silly. You get into a little bus accident and all of a sudden it's like we've got the plague."
"Last I checked car accidents aren't contagious, but hey, you never know," Chika says with more than a touch of sarcasm in his voice.
He might have said more, but he fumbles with the chopsticks and the noodles he was trying to eat end up in his lap. "Aw, damn it! Argh, why couldn't I have been left-handed too?"
Growling, Chika elbowed his friend sharply in the ribs in return for the snickering. He eyes the spork a bit like it might jump up and bite him, but eventually reaches out and picks it up. "Thanks."
"Chika," Chika introduced himself somewhat absently, distracted by his sudden ability to actually eat. Embarrassing as it is, the spork is certainly much easier to handle than chopsticks with his off hand.
"There are people you would rather be friends with?" Chika asked, raising an eyebrow. Sure, he was Shito's friend - after they'd survived a horrible ordeal together, and been forced into each other's nearly constant company for the better part of a month.
At that, it had still taken every ounce of stubbornness Chika possessed to wear the other boy down.
"If I find someone worthwhile, I'll let you know," Shito says, though he smiles to soften the words. It's up to Chika and Vanessa to decide whether the smile is genuine.
He looks at Vanessa. "You're right about them not being worth our time. I guess there are a few people who aren't like that, though."
"Hey. You two just got back right?"

She picks up a plastic spork from her tray and tosses it to Chika. "Try that."

"I'm Vanessa by the way."

"So how come you decided to approach the frightening zoo animals when everyone else is just staying at a distance?" he added, a little teasingly.

"It just seems stupid to be so afraid. Accidents happen. Just because you survived doesn't make you any different from the rest of us."

"You're right about that," he said. "They're idiots. They might as well keep their distance, anyway. I'd rather not be friends with people like that."
