The final battle of the year 21XX landed one of the world’s best Maverick Hunters, their savior X, missing and presumed dead. The other, Zero, nearly immobilized by the Maverick Overlord Sigma and his army of followers, only saved from death by his partner.
“It’ll take me a while before I’m able to move, but when I do I’ll find you X, count on it.”
Zero grew more determined by the day, no matter if he was confined to bed or not, in the hopes he would be able to bring back his friend. When they reunited again they would need to fight… In their absence, Sigma had been recreated and had the world in his grasp. With no one left to fight against him, he could do as he wished...
Little did they know that X was not going to be coming back so easily...
Only Beautiful in My Eyes
X began shaking uncontrollably. A dog… a girl… his visions were coming to him rapidly and out of order. His fevers had broken several times already. He wasn’t able to open his eyes… something, some kind of force was holding them shut. He felt cold… then hot, and wet as if he were in water. If he stayed like this, his body temperature dropping then climbing, then he would die. Or… was he already? Was he…dead?
That girl… in his vision. She had a spirit about her. God-like, serene, beautiful. The dog… a messenger? A follower? If he met with this girl he would be led somewhere, someplace he belonged…? He questioned it. Usually… his visions would show a symbol, then a place he needed to go to…. he needed to go to that girl. Find her. That was all he knew.
All he had a grasp on were his visions… his background, spiralling like a star about to fade to black. He had no name to put to a face, no title to call a familiar place. Like a blind and deaf man, he couldn’t put two and two together.
He was like… drifting in space, stuck in a void that was pitch black. All he could hear was the trickling of water… some kind of loud static. He didn’t bother moving his limbs… Either because he knew he hadn’t the strength to fight something like space, which held no gravity, or he wanted to see more of his dreams… Space or water, they both had the same feeling of nothingness. The static he could hear confused him, and that’s all it meant to him. He could do little but let the void carry him…

It was X. Trapped frozen in an iceberg that had broken off from Antarctica, he was now drifting at sea in the Atlantic Ocean, the hot sun beaming down slowly causing the ice to melt… The battle had taken place in Sigma’s fortress, within outer space… after which, X and Zero had been left in to die. X had plummeted to Earth, landing on the frozen land. Zero had been recovered from the remnants of that base… however, none of Sigma’s parts had been seen…
As of now, X was headed towards Japan. Whereabouts… questionable. Wherever he was going, he would meet that girl there… or, even if he had to explore, he would. That was his only lead, his only reason to keep living. The answer. No… but he didn’t know. He decided that his vision didn’t directly advise him to ‘search’ for her… What he was told could have meant anything in several different ways. Was he supposed to find her dog? Help the dog find the girl? Or just be found by either one? It all boiled down to… who was waiting for who?

After many days and many weeks, the ice had finally shattered, giving way under the sun which had constantly beat down, the harsh waves of the night tide adding to the onslaught. The weak and battered X fell into the water, washed away into a current. Carried to shore… a sandy beach became his resting place. Above it, lay a city. Like a metropolis… where things were easily looked over if not for an attentive eye. This was where humans still dared to live…

*woof!* *woof!* *yipe!* ... a scream guns sobbing metal laughing running terror slashing crying despair please help anyone please Sigma Mavericks death darkness light destruction SIGMA Maverick... Hunter
X sprang up, hand to his buster, not bothering to force his frozen eyes open as he let loose a charged shot. In his mind, he knew he’d downed one Maverick at least. Two arms behind him wrapped around his waist, feeling someone’s face being pressed into his back armor. He fired another shot ahead of him, then turned and ran. His sight came back in an instant, from black to grey to almost a fuzzy-normal… Turning, he saw Mavericks everywhere. Buildings, burning. The corpse of a white dog, a pool of blood around its furry body… the girl. Where was the girl…?! Glancing around furiously, he saw many bodies burnt, slashed, shot, shaking, writhing, bleeding, hurting, dying… A world where Mavericks lived with humans only ended in war. A world with little hope for peace.
X turned around, the warmth of the arms around him reminding him of where he was. A shot hit him in the back, but he did nothing as his attention was concentrated now on somewhere else.
Someplace someplace a finger caught a crystal tear fallen from God
Cuts, bruises, scars, and scabs from daggers and blades covered her arms. The girl… the one whom he’d come for.
“Keep behind me!” X urged. The first words he’d spoken in forever…
Maverick after Maverick fell defeated. Holds blown clear through them, there were big gaping and smoking holes, straight through their chest armor. X finally lowered his buster cannon. Sirens… they caught X’s attention. They were familiar… he felt there was a danger to both him and the girl just then. Run, he should run… he had to keep… a secret. Escape! X grabbed the girl, buried her head against his chest, held her close, and teleported someplace safe. Just as they had left, several Maverick Hunters had reported to the scene of the massive outbreak. They’d come, only to find the entire lot of Mavericks either with their heads decapitated or blown apart by a weapon they could identify well, but refused to believe…

...
X woke, slowly opening his tired eyes, exhausted. A wet towel was being dabbed on his forehead… did he have a fever again? A head pressed to his chest, over his chest… listening to his heartbeat. He saw ceiling… white. He felt, through his back, the fabric of a sofa… Trying to push himself up, he found that he couldn’t, groaning in pain. Two hands which offered a calming and comforting touch pressed down on his shoulders, so that he would go back down.
“Please, don’t move…”
A voice resembling that of an angel’s… a pleading whisper.
X knew that he was probably hurt badly… but could not feel his body, only if he moved. How much damage he had was beyond him for now. Turning his head, he saw what his vision had shown him only glimpses of.
“B… beautiful…”
He reached out a hand to gently touch the perfect yet sad face, great sorrow reflecting in those midnight eyes… turning away, refusing to be touched.
“Pl-please don’t say that anymore.”
Her heart… her soul. Sadness, sorrow, despair. Those arms… bleeding, cut, black-and-blue. So many… scars. He backed away, leaving her to herself. She… she who’d cried for years. Silence, as he looked away into white.
“Thank you.”
After what had seemed like an eternity, X came back to Earth. Something…
“I’m sorry about Patrache… he was a good dog, wasn’t he…” he’d said that like he was in a trance. The girl looked at him, from where she stayed kneeled by the side of the sofa, which she’d laid him upon. “…How did you know?” He didn’t meet her eyes. Perhaps, because he couldn’t.
“I had a vision…” he paused, finally turning to meet her. His emerald eyes connected with her own midnight-blue ones. “It led me here to find you. That’s all I know.”

Maverick Hunter Zero marched through the halls, down to Command Center.
“X has been reported to have been the one to have solved and defeated Bay Tokyo Area Mavericks. Traces of his plasma cannon were detected and matched to training ground results.”
Zero couldn’t help but remember some of the rigorous training sessions they’d had together. It seemed they hadn’t helped much in making each other strong enough… not enough to face Sigma.
“Did you try contacting him? Why hasn’t he reported back yet?!”
“He is ignoring our calls, sir. Each team we have sent to retrieve him has vanished.”
There was a cluster or aqua around the city X now resided in. Aqua meant Mavericks.
The Mavericks were set up as if to act as X’s protective barrier or forcefield…
“We won’t let you reach the one who will bring peace to the world”
Why were the Mavericks stationed all around, so that no Maverick Hunter could get through? Zero wondered… something involving X’s disappearance. X, who had not moved out of that Metropolis since he’d been traced there. Zero didn’t pay it much mind. He would go there to that city, and would return with X by his side. Nothing would stop him from doing that.
