A loud ring from his phone was what woke Dominic up from his deep sleep.

Dominic blinked a few times to chase the sleepiness away from his eyes, as his phone continued to ring. He groaned and reached out to grab the phone, glancing at the screen angrily and cursing quietly when he saw the caller’s name. His boss. Great.

“Good morning, sir, how may I help you?” Dominic tried to sound as normal as possible, doing his best not to sound like he was pretty upset or sleepy-which he actually did. There was a moment of silence before he heard his boss speak, “Good morning, Howard. Thank you so much for attending the meetings last week. As a reward, you have three days off from today. Have a nice day.”

Dominic didn’t get the chance to ask or talk back to his boss when he heard the line was cut. His boss’ voice was so stern and clear-and surprisingly flat. He frowned, staring at the blank screen of his phone and he frowned deeper.

It’s really strange to think that he gave me three day off, let alone a day.

“Dom, are you awake?” He could hear Thomas’ voice from outside his room. Dominic quickly got to his feet and walked away from his bed, pushing his bedroom door open and stared at Thomas, who was standing in front of his room. He looked somehow stunned.

“David texted me and gave me three days off,” Thomas said with a confused face. Dominic raised an eyebrow at him, feeling more confused but then tried to brush it off.

“Huh,” Dominic mumbled, slipping through the door and walking to the kitchen. “Strange. He just called me and said the same thing.”

Thomas frowned, his gaze locked on Dominic’s back as the blond spoke. “That’s pretty strange.”

“I know.” Dominic said, as he pulled out a box of juice from the fridge. “But, what do you think, Tom? Three days off!” Dominic chuckled, as he then poured some juice into a glass. “Man, what a relief.”

Thomas said nothing as he stared at the blond, a frown creasing his face. Dominic sipped the juice, raising one eyebrow at Thomas before he muttered, “What?”

“…Nothing,” Thomas mumbled, walking to the couch, a smirk appearing on his face as he sat on the couch. “Well, just thinking.”

“What are you thinking about?” Dominic asked, as he walked from the kitchen to approach Thomas, curiosity written all over his face. Thomas just giggled.

“Things.”

Dominic’s face paled as he heard Thomas’ quiet laugh after that. “Don’t tell me you’re thinking about-”

“If you’re going to say something like I’m fantasizing about that whatever’s his name guy doing things with you, yes.”

“Oh my God, Thomas,” Dominic inhaled sharply, “No.”

“Yes,” Thomas said with a small giggle, scrambling away from Dominic as the blonde lunged at him. Dominic huffed as he walked back to his room. “So what are you going to do, Dom?”

Dominic stopped right before he touched his room’s handle and glanced back at Thomas, shrugging. “I don’t know. Probably just go on a walk or something.”

“Oh?” Thomas’ expression lightened up a bit as he smirked, “You’re going to walk and search for-”

“-God, Thomas, no!” Dominic cut him off, rubbing his hand over his face as he heard the brunet’s laugh. He shot his friend a glare, “And what are you going to do?”

“’Dunno,” Thomas said with a shrug, but then he smiled. “Ah, maybe I’ll go to that bar?”

“That bar?” Dominic frowned, but then blinked. “Did you mean that bar with that brunet bartender?”

“If you mean Chris, yes,” Thomas said with a grin, and Dominic raised one of his eyebrows.

“And do you have a thing with this Chris guy?”

If Dominic squinted enough, he could see the way Thomas’ face flushed at the mention of Chris’ name. The blond then frowned, but then put on a smirk. “I see, then.”

“Shut up.”

Dominic laughed, walking into his room. “Whatever, Thomas. We have our day off, and I’m going out for a walk,” the blond paused then for a bit, before he glanced back at his friend, “And it’s up to you, whatever you want to do, alright? If you want to go to the bar, just go.”

“It’s not like I need your permission, Dom,” the brunet muttered, “You’re not my father.”

“Damn right,” Dominic mumbled, looking through his drawers to find a comfortable shirt. Silence fell upon the small apartment, and Dominic could hear Thomas’ sigh.

“I’m going to bed for a while,” Thomas said in a low voice, but loud enough for Dominic to hear. Dominic just hummed in reply, walking to the bathroom to go shower.

‘Three days off, huh…’

“Christopher,” a small whine could be heard from the couch’s direction, “I’m bored.”

Chris sighed, as he peeked from his magazine to eye Matt. The smaller brunet was slumped on the couch, mumbling nonsense, and he definitely looked bored.

“Do something then,” Chris muttered, focusing his attention back on the magazine in his hands, “Go take a walk or something. Probably something will be better outside.”

“But it’s cold outside!” Matt whined, collapsing back on the couch. Chris snorted, closing his magazine as he rubbed his own face tiredly.

“Then go out with a coat and scarf or something,” Chris muttered, resting his head on his right hand as he eyed Matt again, “And I may just lock you outside for the whole day if you don’t stop whining about how bored you are right now.”

“I’m not whining!” Matt exclaimed, a pout appeared on his face. Chris groaned in distress, feeling pretty annoyed by now.

“Goddamn it, Matt, you’ve been talking nonsense and whining about how bored you are for almost two hours and you say you’re not whining?” Chris grunted, a hint of annoyance present in his voice. “Go take a walk or something!”

“… I’m sorry,” Matt looked down, guilt showing on his face as he took a deep breath. “Right. I‘m gonna go and take a walk or something,” he paused to get up from his position and walked to his room, “I’ll be back before dusk.”

“Don’t forget to be careful,” Chris cautioned, his hands already full of his magazine again, “And if you’re not back before dusk, I’ll hunt you down.”

Matt let out a small chuckle, “Just don’t kill me when you find me.”

The small chuckle made Chris smile a little, “Right. You’d be difficult to kill, so no, I won’t kill you.”

Matt didn’t reply, but the smaller brunet let out a small chuckle as he grabbed his coat and scarf from his room. Opening the door slowly, he shouted, “I’m going!” before shutting the door again and starting to walk.
“Be careful!” Chris shouted just a few seconds after Matt closed the door again. The taller brunet sighing quietly, as he got up from his seat, abandoning the magazine and then walking over to the nearest window to watch after Matt for a bit. A small smile appeared on his lips, apparently happy when he saw Matt looking a bit happier as he walked off. He was ready to go back to his seat, but a flash of blond hair made him freeze.

Chris knew that it wasn’t Dominic. He knew that it was someone from Matt’s past, someone who Matt had tried so hard to forget.

When he looked back again, the blond was gone. Chris blinked again; making sure whether the man was there or not here, but he didn’t see him anymore.

“It’s probably just my imagination,” he whispered to himself, a nervous chuckle finding its way out from Chris’ throat, “Right. No way that he’s here again.”

Chris took a deep breath then, as he took a glance back to the spot where he spotted the blond earlier. He breathed out in relief when he realized that it was empty, that no one was there. The tall brunet walked back to his seat before picking up the magazine he’d been reading, but he didn’t have any intentions to read it.

“Everything will be fine,” Chris breathed out, his fingers clutching the magazine, “Right?”

Matt did not regret taking the walk, really. He was beyond happy when he made the first turn after leaving the house. Because when he did, he saw a familiar blond walking around there.

“Ah, good morning.” Dominic greeted, a small smile appearing on his lips. Matt tried his best to hold back a grin as he smiled at Dominic, muttering a small “Good morning” in reply.

“What are you doing here?” Dominic asked, stepping closer to Matt. Matt just giggled in reply, taking a step closer to Dominic too, as he said, “I could ask the same to you, sir.”

Dominic couldn’t help but smiled a little. “Well, I have three days off from my boss,” he paused, stopping the movement of his legs when Matt’s body was within two inches of his own, “And since I had nothing to do, I decided to take a walk,” he paused again, glancing down to see the excitement radiating from the smaller man. “So what brings you here, Matt?”

“I was bored and Chris told me to take a walk or something,” Matt said, a wide grin that he couldn’t hold back, taking over his face as he spoke, “Never thought that I’d meet you here.”

“Me too,” Dominic said with a chuckle, “So, now that you’re here, want to walk together?”

Matt blinked rapidly, apparently surprised by the businessman’s offer. Dominic waited for Matt’s reply, but after a few seconds without any reply from the brunet, he sighed. “It’s alright if you don’t want to-”

“-wait!” Matt cut him off quickly, a slight pink tinting his pale cheeks. “I-it’s not like I don’t want to, I do.”

“Alright then,” Dominic said quickly, a smile appearing in his face. “Let’s go on a walk, shall we?”

Matt didn’t reply verbally, instead he nodded and started to walk beside Dominic. They chatted while they walked, sometimes laughing together at some jokes.

They never noticed a pair of green eyes that had been watching them from afar.

Right before 6 p.m., Matt opened the door.

“I’m home!” The small brunet shouted, closing the door behind him with a small thud, a small smile never leaving his face. He could smell the scent of pasta from the kitchen and his smile grew wider. He took off his scarf and coat, walking to his room to put them in his wardrobe. When his stomach growled, he decided to walk to the kitchen, finding Chris preparing two plates of pastas for dinner.

Chris looked up from the pasta to spot Matt who was approaching him. “Ah, you’re home in time I see.”

“I didn’t want you to hunt me down, so I followed the rules,” Matt said with a grin, eyeing the plates of pasta in Chris’ hands hungrily. Chris smiled slightly, walking to the dining room with Matt following slowly behind him.

“Everything went okay?” Chris asked, putting the plates down on the dining table, before walking to go fetch two forks for him and Matt. Matt quickly sat in one chair, pulling one plate closer to him.

“Yeah, I even met Dominic,” Matt said with a cheerful smile, happily accepting the fork that Chris handed to him. “I had a great walk with him.”

“I see,” Chris whispered before he fell silent, locking his gaze on the smaller brunet who was eating his pasta happily. He wanted to be sure that his housemate was indeed alright, without any harm-especially after he saw that glimpse of painfully familiar blond strands when Matt left their house earlier. Realizing that the taller brunet’s gaze was focused on him, Matt stopped eating his pasta, looking up and frowning at Chris.

“What is it?” Matt asked curiously when he saw Chris’ concerned expression. Chris snapped out from his thoughts, registering that Matt had stopped eating his pasta.

“What?” Chris asked back, and Matt frowned.

“You were looking at me intently and you’ve never done that before, so what is it?”

Chris blinked a few times, before he then let out a small chuckle. “Nothing, I just… I’m glad that you’re safe.”

“Huh,” Matt frowned, focusing back on his pasta, “You’re being weird today, Chris.”

Chris just chuckled, picking up his forgotten fork, before he started to eat the pasta slowly. He glanced outside from the kitchen’s window, making sure that they were indeed still alone, safe and sound, without the man from Matt’s past.

In the end, Chris couldn’t help but cast worried glances to the windows, to make sure that the haunting images of green eyes and that that wicked smile weren’t real. He should probably tell Matt, but no, he didn’t want him to be scared or worried or something.

Matt was all alone by himself here. Chris was all alone, too. The only person that was close to a family for him was Chris, and vice versa. He knew that Matt wanted to protect Chris, and Chris felt the same too. Especially after the events that took place around five years ago; after the way they broke Matt so badly. He knew that Matt still remembered it all still, and he knew the fact that Matt couldn’t forget about it. He knew that Matt would be pissed if Chris mentioned it, mentioned that guy; mentioned everything that happened.

Chris didn’t want to see Matt being hurt again. He wouldn’t see Matt’s endless tears anymore.

He would protect Matt and his memories, no matter what happens.
