I went last Sunday, took the train to Penn Station and then the subway up to 74th st. to check out some flea markets. It was a bright warm afternoon and Central Park was PACKED! I didn't see anything great, just people's junk and dollar store sunglasses with designer name signs displayed for &10. Hiked down to Columbus Circle Mall to check out the largest Williams-Sonoma on the east coast, very interesting. Kinda warm outside. They had $1,000-$3,000 knives from Japan simply used for cutting vegetables. I ran into a co-worker from Williams-Sonoma in front of the Williams-Sonoma which was kinda odd. Then I went over to 5th Ave. Went inside the Abercrombie & Fitch flagship store. They didn't sell that much more different items than in my store but all the employee seemed to have been 18-21, and not older as the company target market. I work retail and I know what to look for when shoplifters are around but I was annoyed when I realized a Lost Prevention agent was following me around. Granted I'm black and I have a stuffed bookbag on, I would have expected everyone in New York to carry a bookbag or manpurse on them and I left my manpurse at home! jk. The LP agent are suppose to act as customers but it didn't help this guy when he looks middle-aged and all dressed in Abercrombie, walking around with some guys t-shirts and a girl's hot pink tank top(style CORE BARE KNIT Jasmine 520-2311-61)!!! haha a little full-time stock/impact humor. I eventually just caught him off guard, looked at him, and walked out. The funny part was that I had an abercrombie jacket that I was wearing in my bookbag but it was too hot to wear.
Anyway, I explored the legendary 5th for FINE retailers! VERY HOT OUTSIDE by this point!I hit up the Louie V, Dior, and Armani Exchange. I didn't buy anything because I didn't see anything I really wanted and that's just how my shopping behavior is. I'll only buy it if I really really want it, no matter the cost. Walking 5th Ave just got to the point where I only wanted to experience the atmosphere of going into a place I've never been in before, I ended up walking into Channel and was like, "Why am I in here??......oh hey, men's cologne!"
Walked to Saks, lot of floors. Went to Times Square. I was told to go into the Toys-r-Us and ride the ferris wheel. I passed, looked stupid. Ate lunch a BBQ's, good inexpensive southern cuisine. Walked to Macy's, cool wooden escalators. Walked downtown several blocks to Washington Square Park. There seemed to have been a festival going on. I ran into Greg my Store manager from Hollister. It was weird running into people I know with 30 million people in the city.
I walked over to West Village to check out Ruehl but it was closed. Then I walked along Houston and passed Soho to get to Lower East Side. As it started to get dark, check out this bar Double Down Saloon. Grungey, punk, alternative bar. I wanted to try this drink I heard they make called Ass Juice. It was awesome!@ This pinkish-brown drink that tasted fruity, strong, and was smooth. I had 3 for $9 but it was advertise 3 for $11. Odd. I also had a shot of a substance they use for their other famous drink called the Bacon Martini. The shot was on the house and it had a STRONG bacon after taste. After that bar, I went to a friend's bar where she work and I haven't seen her in a long time Karolina. She really hooked me up and offered for me to stay at her and her bf's place but I insisted I get home. Wow, don't try to go home if you're drunk on the streets of New York and you have to get to another city!
I kinda planned my route before I started drinking but it was a poor outline. I couldn't read street names. I had an idea in my head on what I had to do. I had to take the subway two blocks from the bar and take it uptown to 34th st. and walk literally a block over to the train station. I did not know what direction I had to walk for one block! Not good, when I finally found the train station, it was not an entrance I was familiar with and I ended up searching for the corridor for a half-hour. I had to pee really bad. It was a mess. I tried my best not to act as a drunk tourist @ midnight. I almost took the wrong train. I found the corridor but had to wait for my train for boarding while sitting on the ground leaning on a pillar with sunglasses on so I could not be easily seen dosing in and out. I was so tired. Luckily I got on the right train and fell asleep all the way home. I was fine at that point. So glad nothing happened and all the while my sunglasses were on my collar and did not fall out. I got in NYC at 11am didn't get home until 3am.
It was a great great fun day listening to my 13 hour cd mix all day. I went by myself which was better cuz I got to what I wanted and not get slowed down by anyone else. Next time will be with others and drinks! I didn't want to take the subway a lot. I wanted to see the city and walked 6 miles! Vicariously walked 6 miles! I'm still sore.
