In case you were curious about the answer to my poll question,

Jordi Savall is an absolutely amazing "period musician." He was born in Catalonia, and he is a conductor and composer who plays viola da gamba, an early music instrument much like a cello. He's probably the best there is. Music is very prevalent in his family. He is married to soprano Montserrat Figueras, who also focuses on early music, and has two children, both who play on period instruments as well.

A video of him playing with his children is here (can't be embedded, boo).

The question was asked by me, because sleeping_hare wrote in a recent entry that she'd met someone else who knew who Jordi Savall was, and I guess I was surprised that more people didn't know who he was. I guess I do because early music (Renaissance/early baroque/baroque) is probably my favorite genre of music, and I really didn't stop to think that people didn't know who he was. *shrug*

(A few people thought of the ST:TNG engineer on the Enterprise D, Geordi LaForge, and that's a valiant guess, seeing as I'm a Trekkie as well....)
