[there's a faint click, and then Magentabeard himself starts to talk, sounding only faintly amused this time.]I haven't heard your captain asking us for mercy yet. Not that I would have listened, but it's a nice gesture, aye ( Read more... )

Oh, I doubt they will. They're probably not going to run until they think it's too late.

That's a piece of valuable information, to be giving it away to an enemy. Or are you looking for some sort of reward?

'Enemy' is a strong word, isn't it? Also very... flexible. To be honest, I couldn't care less about this bunch, and I happen to be low on cash. How about we make a deal?

What sort of a deal do you expect to get? I am already going to win, with or without your help.

Of course, you say that now... but I'm sure you'll be wishing you took me up on my offer when you see them flying off into the distance. All I'm asking for is a small portion of the plunder-the same you'd give the average member of your crew.

Tell me your information, then. I will decide if it was worth it after I am done picking through the rubble.

I see you're a reasonable man. Anyway, there are only a few people on this ship who can fight, and they're all on the deck trying to take your planes down. Most of the other crewmen are either fairly young or completely clueless at fighting, but they will be able to get the ship out of here if they see that the ship's being boarded.

I suggest you try to get a substantial amount of your ground crew on this ship as covertly as possible. Once they're below deck, they'll have no trouble seizing the ship.

Hmm. We'll see about that. And what's your name, turncoat? You'll be the first on the end of my sword if you cross Finneas Magentabeard.

Shalashaska. Nikolai Shalashaska. Don't bother trying to pronounce it; I've given up on getting people to get it right.

I'm quite aware of that. Trust me, you've got nothing to worry about.
