Nicole
I thought Nicole did a great job, especially with less time to prepare and being the first to go. She talked about how people like comics that they can relate to the most and used a lot of McCloud's examples to help clarify this point to us. I liked how she included the personal story of her mom writing to the newspaper and compaining about them removing the Kathy comic. This showed how important favorite comics are to people.
Abdulhadi
This was one of the most interesting presentations for me because I don't know very much about Hijab. We read in Persepolis that the little girl and her family from Iran found veils to be oppressive to women and they spoke out very aggressively about them. I always understood this side of the argument because as a woman I would feel this to be shameful like I have to hide myself. But after Abdulhadi's presentation I understand how wearing the veil can also express something about yourself. As long as the veils are not forced upon women, I think one can make their own decision and feel good about it.

I am interested in both german culture and buddhism, so this presentation that talked about the Nazi and religious use of the swastika was really thought provoking for me. I learned just a few years ago that eastern religions use this symbol which represents many positive things. I think most Americans only know this symbol from the Nazis and its a shame that Hitler has corrupted the swastika for many people.
