SGA - Travellers [spoilers!]

Well, I haven't been posting very much recently, have I?

I've actually been meaning to make a post about Travellers for a few days but I was too darn tired from all the revising and stuff. It's been a miserable week...

Anyway, Travellers.

I don't actually have much of an opinion about it. It was one of those episodes where I kept expecting the real story to begin and was still expecting it to start anytime when the credits started rolling. So...yeah.

Things I liked:
1. Sheppard, showing some brains (but not too much. Dude, if a woman beats the crap out of you, it's ok to defend yourself, you know.) Especially liked the fact that he's forged an alliance all on his own but I won't get too excited about that in case we find out that the travellers were all wiped out offscreen by a single wraith (a la Inferno).
2. The look of the travellers' ship, with all the wires spilling out all over the place. It feels nice and used. I can believe people have been living there for generations and haven't been too attentive about the housekeeping.
3. The Ancient warship.

...Ancient warship.

Sorry, I just like the sound of that :D Seriously, Sheppard fixing the chair and generally being intelligent about the workings of Ancient technology makes me very happy. I tend to take stuff like that for granted when it's Rodney or Sam doing it, but Sheppard! Yes!

Things I didn't like:
1. As I said, I kept expecting the story to begin and I was a bit disappointed to find out that this was it.
2. High-heeled boots. I'm starting to develop an allergy to SGA's costuming choices this season. How has Larrin not tripped over the wires on her ship and broken her ankles with those things? Grrr...
3. Sheppard kissing her back. Actually, I don't quite remember who started it, but Sheppard needs to become less trusting of women. I really didn't find that amusing. I'm starting to think Daniel needs to have a private conversation with him about how to deal with space pirates alien women. I'm sure Vala would have some interesting things to teach him too.
4. A marked lack of detail about life on board the travellers' ships. I understand that's not what the episode was about, but still, it's difficult to feel sorry for Larrin and her people when all we see them do onscreen is beat up one of the main characters.
5. Sam's absence. Just one scene to show that she was actually aware her chief of security and master of gadgets had disappeared would have been nice. I honestly don't understand this. Were we to assume she was on Earth? Sleeping? Geeking out with Zelenka in the labs?

Things I'm not sure about:
1. The whole episode. It was...okay in some places, like Teyla's eyeroll, which I just love her for, and the way the rest of the team (including Lorne, yay!) were all worrying about Sheppard together. But I'm not sure I like it.
That said, it'll probably seem more interesting once the travellers have appeared in another episode.
2. Larrin herself. I'm really trying to like her, but I need reasons. All I've got here is that she's clever and very dedicated to her people. But then again, her willingness to sacrifice her people and the sheer stupidity of brutalising a member of the Atlantis expedition instead of asking nicely for his cooperation really turned me off her. And she runs around in high-heeled boots FGS!

I'm hoping this episode will take on more significance later on in the season. Otherwise, it's not too bad, but not too good either.

[Sorry for all the commas in this entry. When I get tired I start punctuating heavily.]
