I've been trying to think of the last time I did something fun that didn't involve Z (or Mo). I have a lot of plans that end up not working out. For example I was hoping to see
M. Evelina Galang on her book tour for her latest publication, and I couldn't/didn't go even though I knew it was a major event for the Fil-Am community in DC. Mo was in San Francisco and Z was going to the MLS All-Star event. So logistically it wasn't happening.
Mo's friend is visiting from Morocco, who is in the US for a training in Springfield, Missouri. Last night they went to the ultimate American experience - a baseball game, with free tickets from our local ward council member. At least the Nats won this time. I would love to see
the Savannah Bananas, "the Harlem Globetrotters of baseball," but oddly they don't seem to come to the area. No visit to either MD or VA. Even if they played in Richmond I would have made the case for a weekend trip.
While Z has gone to Jr. Wizards basketball camp last year and is signed up for this year, today is the first time he participated in a Mystics game clinic. It was actually pretty cool. I had seen Z play bball at school but watching him actually doing drills with a professional coaching staff and kids who were at the same or higher level was a different experience. Proud of my Z!
With the Philippines' women's team qualifying for the World Cup Mo and I have been talking about scenarios where Z could play for either or our national teams. Z can claim Philipine citizenship since I was born there, and he is a dual Moroccan-US citizen. I read an article where only one player on the women's team actually grew up in the Philippines...so what does "national" mean in the end?
