Career Woman: Hear my roar

Apr 09, 2009 14:52

After months of basically begging hospitals for jobs in this recession-stricken, hiring frozen Texas Medical Center, I would estimate maybe a 1/3 - 1/2 of my class have jobs. There are just NO POSITIONS available. Outlier hospitals don't wanna spend the money to train new GN's, and wanna hire experienced RN's.

Fortunately, I was offered a job at The Methodist Hospital in the Transplant ICU. Not exactly what I wanted to do as a nurse - my passion being neurosurgical nursing, especially since that is where I've been working for work study in there Neuro ICU (I love those agitated head traumas haha). But it is still one of their specialties and I would still get to practice holistic, personal care with patients and families (this sounds like my cover letter now, haha). I interviewed literally back-to-back with a classmate for the job, felt horribly awkward and I hope she gets a job someplace else. Who knows, maybe I'll end up loving it.

28 days till GRADUATION !!!!

Still have 8hrs of clinical, 2 work-study shifts, inservices/ MAPP tests for work, 2 projects, and finals.... plus what's that thing that officially makes me a nurse? Oh, yea... f**king NCLEX.
