I just came back from California and learned alot of interesting things about my family.
One of the reasons Assryians are scattered around the world is because their governemnt basically asked them to. Without their own country for protection, they were being slaughtered by various groups (mostly because they were Catholics/Christians living among Muslims) and being forced to run for their lives. The goverment asked them to disperse and mate with the other ethnicities around them to become relatives so they wouldn't revolt against them.
Funny cause I guess my father continued this tradition by marrying a Mexican. But he only had a few other interethnic marriages in the family with immigrants from China and Russia.
I read a survey that in the 1970s only 2% of marriages were interethnic, while presently, it has risen to only 7%. You would think that statistic would be alot higher. Maybe I'm biased towards it because of my family but I guess I had a little more hope for a tolerant country.
