Sigh. It's been a while, yes. There are several reasons for the intermittent blogging attempts but I'll tackle those later. In meantime, food has been my inspiration for returning to the LiveJournal. Oddly enough though, I just burned my hand making dinner but the final product should rock and will totally be worth the pain/blisters.
Over the last 5 months my boyfriend Matt & I have been participating in a CSA (community sponsored agriculture) share where we collect fresh organic produce every week in Alphabet City in Manhattan at the
Sixth Street Community Center. We usually get the reduced share because that is completely enough for two people and even 3 every week. During the summertime, it worked out to roughly $14.53/week for vegetables alone. The winter share includes veggies and fruit along with a monthly delivery of frozen organic produce for $30.00. We took last week's bounty to upstate NY for Thanksgiving at Matt's parents' house and ate like friggin' kings. KINGS!
Anyway, below is what we got tonight for this week's bounty:
+ green leaf lettuce
+ arugula
+ baby spinach
+ asparagus
+ a mountain of string beans
+ package of alfalfa sprouts
+ 4 carrots
+ bunch of flat leaf Italian parsley
+ an avocado
+ 2 pears
+ 2 apples
+ 1 navel orange
+ grapes
Any recipe ideas for string beans, alfalfa sprouts or arugula? Some of the parsley is destined for a
Gnocchi with Butter and Herbs recipe from Real Simple magazine. Any other suggestions are totally welcome.
