I have approximatively six million threads to pick up with both Mindy and Anemone. I WILL DO THIS! It's just been midterms for the last two weeks and there was homeworking going on. 1.Kick-Ass plays a lot of tropes straight while simultaneously subverting the hell out of them; the kid who tries superheroing gets shanked and sent to the hospital for months after his first time trying to do good, and when he recovers and goes back out again the movie openly acknowledges that this is dumb, harmful behavior. But he's still allowed to succeed at helping people by the end of the movie! And he saves a kitty, what's not to love.
2. I am a huge, huge, huge sucker for twisted mentor/student relationships, especially when there's parenting involved. And there are two of them in this movie! Red Mist and his father and Mindy and her dad. If Kick-Ass was 100% about Mindy and her father's fucked up relationship, I would be happy forever. As it is, there's a lot for me to work with and speculate about.
3. The soundtrack is awesome and awesomely used.
4. Mindy is the most kickass little girl ever, and she's allowed to love stuff like the color pink and Hello Kitty. I really enjoy this! It goes against everything I've come to expect from movies with badass ladies. Her fight scenes are such a rush to watch and then she does something normal and baw :( I love it.
5. Everyone in this movie has sympathetic traits. Even bad guys love their kids! Even crazy vigilantes go bowling!
If it weren't for the rather icky romance between Dave and Katie, then I would happily pronounce this movie ♥flawless♥. As is I just adore it a lot and want everyone ever to watch it and then talk with me about it ;;b
