Shouldn't be awake

I don't usually give context to my writing but I don't ussually write like this either. This is an unfinished, work in progress, performance piece. We'll see what comes of it. I didn't really decide this until part way through so it definitely needs some simplification before it's done. I don't think I've ever experienced this particular set of emotions but it was fun to write.

Surreptitiously steal a glance
Stance stationary, eyes straining
Prepared to slam your eyelids shut
Retaining an illusion of inattention
A smile like a shot of liquor
Makes your skin blush
Slow breaths to avoid the head rush
No use
Placate your friends for your absent attention
A muse is nothing to that laugh
While booze drafts your next attention grabbing invention
Read a smile like a letter without a seal
Instant appeal without a word written
Too smitten to maintain conversation
But still sending signals as if tuned to the same station
Friends fade into background noise
No poise too dance but too drunk on serendipity to care
Fuck cab fair, I'll fly instead
My toes haven't touched ground since I found those eyes
And for this brief eternity I am alive
