[there's a harsh sound, like a thumb being dragged over a mouthpiece, and then a pause before there are sounds of the communicator being shuffled around.]

Oops. Uh, well, hello then. This is...interesting. I guess. I can't really say I've ever been given a communication's device when taken captive before, though I suppose that being unable to pick ( Read more... )

[Gideon beat her to the punch...]

It is a bit of an unorthodox captivity situation, although I can assure you that you will find those aboard who do not consider themselves to be hostages. I cannot deny that it is an odd predicament. I hope it will not be too terribly taxing on you.

[oh, great. Stockholm Syndrome.]

Excuse me, and thank you for your reply, but would you mind explaining why the people here don't consider themselves hostages?

Oh...! Well... Some people came from terrible places and to them, this ship is more like a safe haven. Not everyone is like that, but there are some who are. It likely sounds a bit confusing, but all new arrivals suffer from that.

[She pauses for a moment.]

Forgive me for my hasty nature. My name is Zelda.

Nothing to forgive. I'm Donatello.

And I...suppose that does make sense. Thank you.

[and a "safe haven" could mean so many things. Not all of them good.]

Donatello. Despite the circumstances, it is nice to meet you.

[What a quaint name.]

I think it will come to be more logical after you have been here for some time. You may be fortunate and know someone from your homeland here.

[Not everyone is that lucky.]

Things usually do once you've been around them for awhile, I've found.

[he's not mentioning Leo] Maybe, though I'd have to say I'd rather not. No offense, but it's probably better if they're home. You may say this place isn't bad, but...well, I'd rather not take the chance all the same.

I suppose that is a very valid point. Sometimes it is better not to have companions if it means they are to endure the same situation as you. I could say I feel very much the same way regarding my own.

[How troublesome. Zelda could say she is a bit happier on the ship. Partially. Perhaps. She doesn't want to admit that. Not to Donatello just yet.]

If you need help locating any particular place, or if you have any other questions, I will do my very best to lend my assistance.
