Currently reading a book by a gent named Dale Furutani The book is entitled "The Jade Palace Vendetta." So far it's quite an interestiong story. It's meant to be a mystery book and does so quite well but the main quirk is it's set in feudal Japan. He also uses many japanese terms such as greetings and proper terms for things such as baths and whatnot. He often places the word in italics with the english translation following but does it in such a fashion that instead of detracting from the book it adds to the atmosphere he's trying to cultivate. If I was a good decent blogger I'd give you an excerpt but I'm incredibly lazy so I won't.
what amuses me is i have yet to see a book do this with any other language or culture. I've never seen a book set in post ww1 germany do this using old terms and whatnot. Only and very often japanese language. This leads me to wonder if it's simply because of our culture's current infatuation with japanese culture or if there's simply some easier explanation I cannot fathom.
I've also been doing more looks into sewing and such, since a new friend wants me to make him a straitjacket that can be worn backwards or forwards. I'll probably chart my progress on this so feel free to keep an eye out if the subject or how i'll do this appeals.
update,
