The agèd

We go home tomorrow (!) and then I'm back to Montreal on Monday. I'm definitely ready to return. I'm going to skip the squee about codename:artemis because, really, Internet, I know you don't care, but two and half weeks on family bonding is enough for me. Ugh. That sounds so... old. I mean, I used to spend each and every day, or at least part of each day, doing some bonding with the fam... And now it's just a few phone calls a week. Whatevs.

Winnipeg got bloody cold today, a lovely -28 (thankfully, I'll be back in TO before tomorrow's -36 hits)... We had lunch with Great-Uncle Norman, and dinner yesterday with my father's mother's sister's husband's brother's wife (I'm not even kidding). And they are both adorbs! N-Dawg is off to the sunny south of the US tomorrow, and Mrs. K is going to Cali in February. They're both part of Winnipeg's aging Jewish elite, the kind who play poker and mah-jong and dine out a lot and go to the hairdresser every Tuesday. He's almost eighty and she was ninety in June but they're rather spry and they have so many stories to tell! Mrs. K's sugar-puff-sweet, and N-Dawg legitimately makes me laugh. And some of the other residents in my grandmother's nursing home are lolacious as well... I was reading Hamlet and then Carol Shields in the lobby area, and that spawned so many conversations with Winnipeg Jewry's senile elderly population. They all seem so lonely... Sad times in Toba-town.
