I'll buy my own cars and houses and stuff, thank you. I'm perfectly capable and I don't need taking care of. I would love to have a relationship with someone who just wanted to love me for who I am and let me love him and not try to own me or control me under the guise of "taking care of me".
I even kill my own spiders. And clean my own guns.
You know how threatening and intimidating that is to most men? "Uh, she doesn't want me for my money, because she has her own. She doesn't need a handy man, because she fixes things herself. She doesn't need a strong back, because she can hire one. She doesn't even need a hard cock, because she's got some battery-operated ones that can go longer than I can. It doesn't make sense, why would she be interested in me? She's got to be lying and she really is after my money and just putting on a show of independence. I can't trust her."
I'll risk it and suggest that maybe you are one of the aforementioned MWV types of female. If so, much higher on the esteem list.
As for the feeling of threat? I'm not threatened by things like that, and I doubt that 'most' men are. Men have more of a problem when women become self-sufficient and then begin acting as if they don't need the man around. It is the last part of that sentence that is important. We don't want you to need us for every little thing, we just want to know you want us around. That you enjoy our company and welcome our advances. Advances of love, and yes, once in a while, advances of sex too.
I am blessed. I am blessed because I do have a woman that values me for some things, but has her own life for other things. She shares some of the things I find most important to me rather than trying to take me away from them. And, while we may disagree at times, we've never really argued or fought. I love her immensely, but that does not violate what I have seen time and time again. Because she is so great, it only accentuates what I have seen day in and day out from personal experience.
Now, don't get me wrong, we men as a whole are no spring roses either. Watch for an upcoming post. But I started on the women because frankly, I don't give a damn how suck ass men are, I'm not going to be dating one most likely.
