I'll keep this short. Overall it was a great game. I salute you if you stayed up to watch all of it and I give you a double salute if you stayed up to watch Penn State win the Orange Bowl. Since Penn State kicks ass ( Read more... )

1. I have bad perceptions of laterals...you remember 8th grade gym. Seriously, though, Reggie had broken a 30-yard run that was just incredible, and he spoiled the momentum. That was one of two turning points in the game, the first one being the first failed 4th-and-1. See #3 1/2.

3. Carroll wasted all his timeouts...that 2-point one was complete bull. You've gotta control your players so they don't do dumb things like call that. Now I remember why I was rooting against the team with the guy who led the Pats to the playoffs twice.

3 1/2. You didn't really title this point, so let me throw my two cents in. 4th-and-1, you're going for it, and you've called the QB sneak. Super. Fantastic. Whatever. Call whatever play you want. You can. You're USC. You've got a Heisman finalist at QB, a 1000-yard guy in LenDale White, and Reggie Freaking Bush. The Longhorn D had to prepare for any one of these guys to come smashing up the gut in that situation. So they tell Texas what the play is going to be by having an empty backfield. They leave White on the bench and send Bush in motion...WTF? He was split too far to block, he's obviously not running it and no way they're throwing on 4th-and-1.

You're talking about a different 4th down, earlier in the game, and you're absolutely right.

And about the timeout, I forgot to mention that. The defense HAS to know that a two point conversion is coming. It's just common football knowledge. Good point again.
