Welcoming in the New Year With Fic

Jan 01, 2011 00:36

This is an old pagan tradition that encourages good spirits to enter the home by offering them smut and character development for their favourite works of fiction.

It's also an excuse to have some fun like last year. I don't really do New Year's Eve, but I found that sitting around, writing fic with degr00ve provided the best one I've yet had.

Of course, I ( Read more... )

Oh shush! I can't write as good a Grell as you, I know that much. But it was tons of fun trying. :D

You know, Sherlock should really use Lestrade as a sniffer dog when he's in wolf form and then Lestrade should be all grumpy about it in the morning. But, really, there are all manner of amazing directions Werewolf!Lestrade fic could take.

Maybe I should have challenged you to write that epic Ashes to Ashes fic. All in one night. Fortunately, I am not cruel but I haven't yet told you how in love I am with the plot you dreamt up for it. Anything amiss in Heaven and Hell, you know I'll be interested. And Jim Keats sleeping on the floor because nobody likes him! It could be such a beautiful thing.

Anyway, fic, fic, fic... I'm trying to think up other ideas...

PS I love you too. :P

I need to write more Grell stuff! Right now I'm think in the middle of a Sebastian fic actually. I'm not sure if I can finish it tonight, but I will try :) It's mostly inspired by T. S. Eliot's The Naming of Cats and it's more vague metaphysical / mythological rambles :p AS IF I HAVEN'T WRITTEN ENOUGH OF THOSE.

It's funny that you mention both Lestrade as a sniffer dog and Ashes to Ashes because I posted this fic without reading this comment, and it involves . . . discussion of Lestrade as a sniffer dog and an Ashes to Ashes / Life on Mars reference ;) (obviously since Gene's world is not our world, the dodgy fellow from Internal Affairs Lestrade met wasn't Jim Keats . . . just a guy in the real world who also happened to be a monster :p).

I am considering more and more writing that Ashes fic! I've gotten a few more ideas (but still no real solution to what's amiss between Heaven and Hell -- argh!). Coming up with stuff for Jim to do now that he no longer has to masquerade as a nice guy is fun too, he no longer has to take attitude ( ... )

There will never be enough vague metaphysical/mythological rambles! I don't see enough of them away from your fic journal, so I'd say you're providing a valuable service for mankind. And what's more fun than exploring the metaphysical anyway ( ... )

Posted a preview of the Sebastian fic below :D I'm thinking of leaving it that length . . . these rambles I think are more interesting / bearable if they are bite-sized, I can't expect people to endure an entire book worth of it ;) And oh yes, Sebastian would totally be Mr. Mistofefelees ;) (And we all say oh, well! I never! Was there ever a cat so clever as magical Mr. Michaelis?)

I'm kind of thinking that the something wrong with the afterlife must be something a demon has cooked up - maybe hoping to rearrange everything to get out of the same-old-same-old routine of afterlife management. Maybe a demon who hopes this will get all the fallen angels back into heaven? It'll be a good explanation, since someone must have screwed Jim over for some reason . . . and he's so fond of his job and so fond of the way things are that maybe he had this come down on him because he didn't want to help mess things up? Hmm . . .

I'm thinking of rewatching Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes this winter, actually :) Since I recc'ed it to a friend, and I ( ... )

The Sebastian fic is wonderful! It's such an interesting idea and so well done, as per usual. I particularly love the little glance at his former angelic self, and the relation he bears to it now - the fact that he doesn't dare pronounce his old name. It's brilliant. I think you've missed out a few words in the second sentence, but that's the only typo I noticed.

I like the idea for the Ashes to Ashes fic. You just have to think how this demon thought he was going to rearrange things... And is it starting purely in the lower levels? Or is all Hell literally breaking lose? It'll be good whichever way, because Jim obviously appreciates the way things are currently run, so you'll have plenty of room for conflict.

You're too kind about Hellfire and Ice! I've had a few really lovely comments about it, actually. Mark's style is so much fun to imitate, so maybe that comes across. I'd like to think he'd get a kick out of people taking his characters on more adventures too. He obviously enjoys being a professional fic writer for Sherlock and ( ... )

I always like the thought that demons and fallen angels can return to grace at any time they choose, but would never admit they've been wrong (or like what they are now enough to be afraid of going back to heaven) and therefore don't :) Oh also, which sentence do you mean and how can I improve it specifically? It's almost 2:30 here so my brain is not working properly :p

I think if it's hell that's responsible for the Ashes fic's trouble, it would be more powerful demons. In my mythology there's some demons, Lucifer included (and he is canon, in official supplemental material Jim's office memos are directed at a guy named Nick Callahan -- Nick as in Old Nick, and Callahan as in 'Gaelic name meaning light-headed or light-bearer' . . .), who are fallen angels, wherehas the "office staff" (i.e. demons like Jim) are purely demonic servants of vague origins, who are not attached to heaven ( ... )
