♠ Basics
Name: Charlotte La Bouff
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Movies/Series: Princess and the Frog
Year or position: 2nd Year College/Teacher
Non/Speaking Animal/Companion (is applicable): None.
Powers (if applicable): Per the AU history, she still has her voodoo curse of super strength. It’s not known exactly how strong she can be (since this requires willing use of it as well as proper training, which she never received), but it was seen in the last game that she was able to take out several 15-20 ft. tall trees with ease. However, she’s gained a considerable amount of control over adjusting how much strength she really needs to do day to day tasks, and can usually go about her business and not let too many people onto the fact that she’s hexed.
♠ In-Depth:
Personality: Despite often coming off as shallow, Lottie has proven at times to be anything but. While she is indeed constantly worrying and caring about her own life, if anyone she considers a friend is in need, she gives it 110% to help them out and is more than willing to be the first one to come to their aid. Granted, that’s if she knows they require help. Otherwise, she’s typically off in her own la-la land.
Lottie is quite energetic and excitable, though this is multiplied by hundreds if a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity presents itself (such as Naveen’s arrival in canon). While still bubbly and hyper, she’s a tad more mild and reserved when life goes about normally (based on her attitude and mannerisms before Naveen, and after Tiana’s and Naveen’s marriage). Don’t let her bounciness fool you, though. She knows how to be elegant when need be (as seen with the expertise and the “masked” visage she wore she danced with fake!Naveen). However, she needs to consciously focus on being refined; if something takes her by complete surprise, such as frogs down her back, she can quickly lose that cool.
Charlotte also shows she knows how to play hostess and give out proper southern hospitality, no likely taught and implemented by Big Daddy and the era (she apologizes to fake!Naveen for the frog fiasco in lieu of complaining or rattling on about it, as well as provided him with room, food, drink, and board).
That being said, she’s still ridiculously spoiled. It’s not often she can’t obtain something she wants, and when she doesn’t, it can send her into a tissy. Although, she doesn’t usually have too much of a problem when it comes to material possessions; after all, she can right up a check here, drop some clams there, and it’s all hers. But if her heart’s set on something and she can’t get it, she becomes incredibly discouraged and disheartened (going into a pouting tantrum when Naveen doesn’t show up on time).
She doesn’t care about society’s views on the color of her friend’s skin. While one may think Tiana is the exception and not the rule, she readily swoons over Naveen who is clearly of a different ethnicity. This begs the conclusion that while she may be subject to believing certain stereotypes due to the era (which does exist in canon, with Mr. Fender’s statement, “...A little woman of your status...”), she doesn’t let it stop her from looking inside her friends and seeing the good in their hearts and their true personalities (or their potential for helping to make her dreams come true).
However, almost ironically, she does judge books by their covers... at least initially. She has an eye for people who are aesthetically pleasing and will usually attach herself to them before she does so with someone who isn’t as keen looking. First impressions are huge in her book (which is why she put on such a production with lights, the perfect pose, over the top get-up, and glitter for Naveen’s first glimpse of her). First impressions of others will last with her for a long time, for better or for worse, until something happens to replace it.
Charlotte’s also not always roses and sunshine. She’s more than able to give the cold shoulder, and does so without a second thought. Granted, she usually wouldn’t be so outright rude to a stranger or to an acquaintance (unless they’ve caused someone else she knows or cares about grief, such as the Shadowman). With people she’s more familiar with, she’s more than ready to risk being off-putting if being a little mean will get them to leave her alone (such was seen with Travis in canon).
While that “cold shoulder” comes in handy for dissuading certain folks from pestering her, she doesn’t always use it on people that should be receiving it. This is because Lottie is unequivocally naive and trusting. She prefers to assume people are generally good (this is most likely a result from living such a sheltered and lucky life as the daughter of the most prestigious and arguably powerful man in New Orleans). She will more often than not ignore signs that something’s fishy about them (such as fake!Naveen, since he acted outright suspicious many times throughout the movie before his reveal). She’s blinded by the light her own rose-colored glasses, and typically can only recognize evil if it’s blatantly revealed.
Canon Background: Here~.
AU Background: Lottie was raised in a spacious, elegant, and well-maintained antebellum mansion in New Orlean’s Garden District. Her father, Eli “Big Daddy” La Bouff, a man of old money, inherited the La Bouff family’s sugar and cotton plantations, and is well respected by the rest of the upperclass, businessmen, and political figures within the city. Due to his influential status within the community, constant income surplus, and to the death of his late wife, he had the will and the way to spoil Charlotte rotten from youth. He encouraged her from early childhood to wish on stars for her dreams, supporting her fantasies in any way possible. So when Prince Naveen of Maldonia rolled into town, she was instantly blessed with Big Daddy sending him an invitation to their annual Costume Ball. This was her chance to meet, fall in love, and marry a prince!
She had asked her childhood friend, Tiana, to cater the party, hoping her friend’s wonderful cooking would help convince the Prince to court and marry the young debutante. Woe was the poor blonde when her Prince didn’t arrive on time! However, she quickly perked up and acted the part of southern belle once he rolled in.
Unfortunately, Tiana’s clothes had been spoiled in an accident; unable to see her friend looking so miserable, she took Tiana upstairs into her room and offered one of her own dresses. While Tiana was changing, Lottie went out onto the balcony for a bit of fresh air, her room a tad stuffy from the damp heat of the warm spring night. Unexpectedly, she was approached by a talking frog who claimed to be the real Naveen. After some initial startling (and perhaps a few inelegant curse words of surprise), her fantasy-oriented mind settled on trusting what the frog said. Without hesitation, and with full confidence, she picked up the slimy little creature and kissed him dead on the lips. The spell immediately reversed, restoring Naveen to his human state right there on the balcony. Lawrence, Naveen’s packmule man servant instantly turned back into his old form as well, right in the middle of the crowd. Charlotte took Naveen downstairs and out into public to help explain the truth and reveal the imposter’s misdeeds.
That didn’t please Shadowman, Doctor Facilier, in the least. After Lawrence was taken away for impersonation and betraying a royal, Shadowman confronted the duo. Enraged, be began to cast a voodoo spell on them, more deadly than not. Little did the debutante, prince, and witch doctor realize, Tiana was nearby as well. Before the spell could be finished, she jumped in front of harm’s way in hopes to spare Charlotte.
Her act of courage, selflessness, and loyalty to her friend (and, unintentionally to Naveen) changed the spell around and made it go haywire; in the end, while Lottie and Naveen were still both hit, the voodoo had caused some strange and unintentional effects. Naveen transformed into a frog once more (easily solved later by another kiss), Tiana received the curse of turning anyone she touched into animals, and Lottie was hexed with super strength. Horrified by the discovery of said “power,” and as mad as a wet hen at being cursed, she chased the Shadowman away with her tiny pink fists of fury!
Curses aside, grateful that she was able to return him to normal self twice, as well as attracted to her outgoing personality and familial wealth, Naveen and Lottie dated for over a year. However, they discovered along the way that they were more friends than lovers. That made it easy for him to choose to leave for the Academy when he received his invitation. Almost ironically, Tiana was accepted into the place too.
Lottie joined them a few months later after finally receiving her own invite. However, upon her arrival, she found that Tiana and Naveen were falling in love; she quickly called off her “relationship” with the Maldonian, giving the two her blessing. Time passed at the Academy, and a little after the New Years holiday, Tiana and Naveen decided to return to New Orleans, planning on getting married and working towards getting Tiana her restaurant. Charlotte was left behind yet again.
However, shortly after their departure the Mist Boom occurred. Lottie hasn’t heard from either of her friends since, begging the question (she more often than not ignores for her own sanity), are they still alive? If so, where are they? Do they have all their memories and personalities still intact, or did the Mist alter them?
Even with those uncertainties weighing on her heart, Charlotte continued her attendance at the Academy. She even eventually made a deal with Shadowman to remove her curse. But this new Mist wave over the Academy has left that deal yet to be fulfilled (so poor bubbly Lottie is still hexed with voodoo).
Appearance: For the 1920’s, Lottie is a fairly curvaceous gal, fitting the 1950’s definition of “blonde bombshell” better than any of her own era. Girdles and special corsets help to define and slim down her form (per the era), helping to nix the problem of unsightly bumps. She’s not fat or obese by any means, but she’s certainly not “Princess Ariel” or “Belle” thin either.
Her skin carries a pinkish hue (only further accentuated by her tendency to wear mostly pink), her cheeks usually a few shades more vibrant. Wide blue eyes, button nose, full lips, and bright blonde hair decorate her head. She’s rarely seen without her hair and makeup done to perfection.
While many of the styles of the 1920’s were formless, Lottie tends to wear dresses that are form-fitting, showing off her feminine curves. Her clothes are still drop-waist-ed, per the popular fashion trend, and the skirt hems always reach at least right below her knees.
Classes: She teaches Latin/Swing/Ballroom dancing. The classes she attends as a student are TBA.
Clubs: TBA
Best Subject: TBA
Greatest Fear: She’s terrified of finding herself alone and on her own in the world, for one reason or another. She doesn’t do very well without constant support and acceptance from her friends and family (which, back in New Orleans, due to her position in society, was never an issue). She’s always relied on her father’s wealth, on her friends’ kindness and goodwill, and on her peers’ respect for her in order to measure her own value and success. Without all that, she’s nothing and she knows it. She’s not bright academically, and her sporting skills are nothing to applaud. Sure, she can cut a rug like no one’s business, but that won’t get her anywhere in life, and if she hasn’t learned it yet, she will eventually.
In other words, to be abandoned by others intentionally or unintentionally would devastate her to the core, since she would never wish to abandon those she cares about, much less want to. Likewise, permanently losing people close to her heart would have the bring about a similar devastation.
How long have they been at the school: She’s been there for a little over a year now.
Has your character been enrolled at the school before? Do they remember it? Yes, she has and for the most part her memory has been unaffected. She only wont remember certain people if their muns decide to bring them in fresh and wish for her to have no memory of them.
Relationships with other characters:
Rapunzel- Friends. They’re just silly adorable blonde buddies who once made matching dresses.
Jane Calvin- Friends. She sort of unintentionally views Jane as a little sister, and is more than eager to provide tea parties or shopping trips for them to bond. She also takes it upon herself to remind Jane that it’s okay to be a child and to enjoy it while it lasts.
Sinbad- Friends with PG-13 benefits. He was her TA in the previous game, and so they are dance-partners from time to time. They get along pretty swimmingly, and it wasn’t uncommon for Lottie to invite him over for a glass of “juice” or to flirt with him.
Proteus- Good acquaintances. They never really had an opportunity to bond before the Academy closed. However, she’s quite taken with his manners and reserved charm… if only he were a prince…
Aqua- Friends. They don’t always agree with one another, as they personalities are as different as the colors they represent (insert “Make it pink!” “Make it blue!” joke here). However, they’ve become fairly close over their shared time at the Academy. Lottie once played matchmaker and somehow managed to trick Aqua and Terra into falling in love with each other. Too bad the match didn’t work out in the end.
