The new house.

Early on Tuesday Chris, my mum and I started the process of making changing our new house's personality. During the initial scrub through we found a few interesting bits of historical interior decor. Like when we moved the fridge and stove out, we found that at some point people had just cut the old 70's country basket/floral vinyl wallpaper arround the appliances and then painted the paper free wall.
Yesterday was the beginning of painting, The living room and dining nook is a lively pale green and our bedroom is a deep blue. The other rooms are for the moment going to be primed until we decide what colour we want. In the kitchen part of me REALLY wants to rip down the existing cabinets and put up newer ones.
My Mum and Dad are taunting us with the Restoration Hardware catalogue (very nice, expensive reproduction stuff for your house) and other places for design ideas. We are trying to keep the house close to its original build era (1946, the house is the same age as my dad) and are even looking arround to find either reproduction or antique lighting that has had the wiring updated. This whole process is going to be a work inprogress for a few years that I'm quite excited to do.
I'm also not really at a loss for period furniture since my parents are pack-rats (for antiques)and I have the contents of a barn and basement to peruse and plunder. The nice thing about alot of this furniture is that it belonged to the grand and great-grands and I even have memories of some of these pieces of furniture in their respective original houses. All I need now is a good upholsterer.
