I'm not sure who thought it would be a good idea to kidnap me--or if that 偏執的糾察員 of a captain left me behind for some reason. I don't even know what world this is, and I can't get this piece of 垃圾 to let me get on the Cortex.

[He pauses for a second to compose himself, trying to keep his tone reasonable, though he's clearly irritated and worried.]

No one kidnapped me. Not sure why I'm here but I'm not complainin'. I take it you left a life back there.

Yes. I had a life. And I'm not fond of being removed from it against my will.

I was a trauma surgeon in the Core until recently. Now I'm a doctor onboard a transport ship.

I'm almost jealous. Best thing t'do is to relax, son. As I understand it, bein' here has no effect on wherever you happen t'be from.

Ah, I see. Not a bad profession you've found yourself. I've known a lot of doctors in my time, and they've all been profitable. 'Course, they weren't exactly the best in their field, in their own little ways.

I guess I'm supposed to be grateful for that.

On Osiris it was profitable. But there were more important things than the money to be concerned about.

Just calm yourself. It gets easier after a few hours, provided you aren't busy worryin' about where you are. Trust me.

Are you suggesting that later in my life, money will or should be my primary concern?

Not at all. I'm suggestin' it'll change, but money doesn't necessarily have t'be the new focus. Never was, really, for the others I knew.

I think I've already undergone the change you're referring to, in that case.

Well, that's good for you, then. It's refreshin' t'see someone who doesn't have t'go off the deep end t'get where they really want to.

That's not to say there wasn't a price to pay. I'm just not the one who had to pay it.
