It seemed that way. He stayed in the clinic that night, anyway. And videotaped you sleeping, though he wouldn't give me a real answer about why.

[Remembering they're in an event, he quickly adds] You don't need to tell me, though, if you know. Though I'm curious about it, it's none of my business.

[He switches the audio to PRIVATE. He pauses for a long time (because apparently he doesn't know that's bad radio) and all of the sudden it just comes out. He sounds hurt and scared and sad while he's talking, his voice only affected slightly by the emotions beyond his customary flat tone. Damn this event.]

There's this being. We call him the Operator but he doesn't really have a name. He's tall and slender and he wears a suit but he doesn't have a face. He's not human. Not even a little. He gets taller and shorter and he sets things on fire - he burned down my apartment, when I left - and he's got this thing for children and dogs freak out near him a-and he can transport, or something... - God, he moves so fast. And the only way to stop him from moving that fast is to catch him on film, which doesn't save you. It just helps you remember ( ... )

[Simon listens quietly and J is right, it is pretty unbelievable. But Simon's seen some unbelievable things and the emotion in J's voice is hard to ignore.

It makes more sense now, though--why Alex was videotaping the whole time.

Simon is quiet for a moment, then speaks slowly.] Do you know what he wants?

No. I have no idea. I know he didn't start following Alex until Alex started chasing him down... and I know he didn't start really screwing me over until I was looking for Alex. [He pauses.] ...He kept telling me "to the ark", that I'd lead him there, but.. I don't know what that means. I think he meant Alex but he found Alex without me, so... [He can't really stop talking, so he heads himself off at the pass. Calm down.]

How did Alex come into contact with him in the first place? And can he even get what he wants in this place?
