Yesterday I saw a soft shelled spiny turtle in a local river. I was on an observation deck maybe fifteen feet up the limestone bank, and I looked down and saw it swirl upwards out of the deep brown water. It stuck its distinctive, pointy snout out of the water, took a deep breath, and dove down again. Because its shell was broad and round the bubbles its passage created were huge, and went blorp blorp plock when they hit the surface.
