We have this firebellied toad. It lives in a five gallon tank with a waterfall for a filter and pump that I got Mom for her birthday before last. He has all kinds of different levels of water - shallow water, very shallow water, somewhat deeper water, a little bit of water deep enough to keep a small bait goldfish, which Mom plans on putting in ( Read more... )

Oh, I hope you find him! I love firebellied toads. We have two at work for use in our programs and I love to take them on outreach. Kids always love their bright orange bellies.

:D :D :D It's okay, it's really my youngest brother who loses him most often and gets worried. (I'm the best at spotting him, so I am often called in to point him out.) I changed the carbon and filter sacks for his water filter this morning, and now he's all active and very obvious. I believe he feels violated. Insofar as a toad can feel violated. He's trying to climb up the glass, and giving me an excellent look at his belly! And his toes. I love the little orange tips on their toes.

Oh, man, I bet watching the kids get excited is so much fun.

I'll bet. That's a big tank for one little guy. We have a male and a female in a much smaller box, but they seem happy enough.

That's the best part of the job, really. I love the outreach, just wish I could keep doing them. My position was just for 3 months while someone went on maternity leave, but I enjoyed it.

Yeah, it is definitely overkill - Mom loves having small herps about, and all our friends know it, so when they have a tank they don't want/need anymore, they give it to us. The five gallon is the smallest one, except the one that once held a hermit crab, which I think is three (I haven't looked at it in a while). I've been considering asking Mom if she might not want a few more toads. We could certainly house three comfortably. The filter's meant for a much larger tank with turtles in.

*nodnod* Because you get to share and teach. I hope another position doing that opens up and you can take it, because it seems to me that it really is a great match for your personality!
