They did have to use 'union'. But only once, and in that case it was the fact that the rubber tapper's union of Western Brazil insisted on using it that forced them to.
They also quoted women perhaps three times in an hour presentation. It was AMAZING. Gender and class and colonialism were everywhere on that screen, and the narration seemed to be devoutly hoping we wouldn't notice.
I honestly didn't think they'd pull it off, until I got to the end and they managed to talk about Mohandas Ghandi and neither word cropped up.
They didn't even substitute "hegemony" or "imperialism".
It was impressive, in a warped sort of way.
