Aw, come on, Doonesbury...

*facepalm*

This is the problem with liking cartoonists who are older than your parents. Eventually they get kind of stuffy.

:/ Yes, the flashbacks to the Rick and Joanie dating of mutual stumbly/sweet/sensual and the accompanying Ginny and Clyde during Ginny's university/campaign days just kind of pointed up for me all the problems with the ( Read more... )

It's kind of sad. ;_;

I have! I didn't know he had a Doonesbury tag, though. Does he?

I totally agree with you on this. I have most of the older Doonesbury collections and the affection for the original characters shines from every panel. I think G's just not quite sure to do with the younger characters because he doesn't get the X and Y ethos. He's so much a product of his generation (and that's fine with me) that he really relates best to their "story". In a way it's a reflection of the larger Boomer ambivilance towards their kids. Just my .02

Yes, I agree - I think that's most of it (God knows I have no clue what my generation's 'ethos' is - everyone from it I know is a giant sciences or humanities geek, and heaven knows we're a strange bunch). What makes me sad is that it feels a little like his grip on the older characters is slipping too.

Rick and Joanie losing their heads over Bill Clinton was considerably more amusing than the recent Hilary Clinton storyline, for example. I dunno.

(Also, I wish he'd stop trying to bounce Zipper off of Boopsie. It totally doesn't work as well as her interactions with Zonker.)
