This keeps happening. I have to stop and boggle, I just can't believe it. It's like the people who wrote this thing live in some sort of weird alternate universe. I mean, seriously. Seriously.
It's getting worse now that I'm in the Public Relations section. I. I. I'm sorry, I just. I can't. Rockefeller's "sensitive intervention" in the Colorado coal strikes of 1913 to 1914? The SAME coal strikes that started with the murder of a young labor organizer and ended with the murder of another young labor organizer and nearly thirty other people? His SENSITIVE INTERVENTION? I. I. I.
...Omigod. What the hell? That candy ass industrialist who just had to own the entire county and control every man, woman, and child in it is somehow a hero in this set up because he had the NERVE to go in there and stage a little make up smooth it over I'm very sorry for your loss scene for the cameras? What the HELL?
I don't think I'm a cynic, okay? I believe in the basic sociability of people, I believe in being kind and polite and generous of heart, mind, and spirit, but jeeze louise, shaking a few hands does not make it all better, and if you were really intervening then why the HELL did that young man end up beaten to death and then shot multiple times, and WHY was the Ludlow encampment machine gunned and then torched? That was in 1914, after his little "intervention". Oh my! What a helpful intervention!
What? Is this some sort of world where that DIDN'T happen? What a nice world! I want to go live there!
Mary, Martha, and Paul, it's no wonder we never learn.
