I wonder if you could have insisted they keep the old battery and not charge you for a new one if that didn't fix the problem. I honestly have no idea if that would be feasible either as a plan or with the stealer.

ETA: Wait, they can't diagnose the problem without it running? Why not?

I believe at the time they thought the answer was 9in my Check Engine codes, which they could not seem to get if the car wasn't running - they also might have tried to take it for a drive (I LAUGH at them. *grins*)

But there's a follow up - it seems it was the battery all along, along with some other issues that did need to be addressed. I'm just relieved nothing major was broken.
